Head of Public Affairs European Industrial Gases Association (EIGA)
The European Industrial Gases Association (EIGA) is looking for a Head of Public Affairs to join our team in Brussels. This is a newly created position to create, grow and lead the public affairs capability of the association and sector, which until now has focused on safety, technical and regulatory issues.
About EIGA
The objective for EIGA is to proactively build and deepen relationships with relevant institutions, stakeholders and partners to increase the visibility of EIGA and raise awareness of the position of EIGA and its sector among target groups including the EU institutions.
EIGA has a President and a Board of Directors, which constitutes the governing body. The EIGA office deals with legal, financial and administrative matters and supports all technical and safety work. Under the supervision of the Board, the Industrial Gases Council (IGC), the Medical Gases Council (MGC), the Regulatory Environmental Council (REC) and the Safety Advisory Council (SAC) direct the safety, environmental, regulatory and standardisation activities of the various working groups (WG) in their respective fields of expertise.
What You’ll Do
Working with EIGA’s broader team and members, you will coordinate the external advocacy of the Association. You will focus on policy areas relevant for the industrial gases sector (including energy transition and hydrogen) at the EU level. You will also advise on the necessary communication strategies to increase the visibility of EIGA and achieve its advocacy objectives. The position is based in the EIGA offices in Brussels where you will report to the General Secretary.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Public Affairs and Advocacy Engagement at EU Level:
o Monitor, analyze and report on relevant legislative and regulatory developments at EU level that have relevance to the interests of EIGA members.
o Identify opportunities for EIGA to engage and drive policy and regulatory change; to influence such developments.
o Coordinate with the relevant EIGA staff (and external consultants), as well as working groups, taskforces etc to develop and execute appropriate and timely actions.
o Promote EIGA’s interests by attending events of the EU Institutions and other relevant stakeholders.
o Organize and attend meetings with relevant policymakers and their staff.
o Respond to inquiries from members of the EIGA.
2. Supporting Communications:
o Contribute to EIGA’s communication strategy.
o Address as required the press & media.
Your Profile
* Ability to identify policy developments relevant to EIGA members.
* Ability to transform complex technical matters into language that will resonate with and persuade various stakeholders.
* Real world experience with the European Institutions, associations, companies, think tanks and/or PA/PR agencies.
* Climate and Energy Policy experience, ideally including exposure to gas or electric issues.
* University degree ideally to Masters level.
* Fluency in English with excellent communication and drafting skills. Knowledge of any other EU language is an asset.
* An interest in industrial gases, the energy transition and hydrogen.
* Self-starter, flexible, intellectually curious.
