Scrap Metal Services is an American metal processing and recycling company which has just signed a 10-year contract with Industeel/ArcelorMittal at the Charleroi site. We are currently looking for a General Manager to manage a team of 30 people and able to perform the following tasks.
Responsibilities:
* Ensure compliance with all applicable laws regulations, including Environmental, Safety and Health guidelines and best practices, including mitigating risks associated with contractors and vendor insurance and indemnification.
* Lead a production team and effectively manage costs and profitability (P&L) of dedicated production site to achieve optimal safety and productivity.
* Implement and drive continuous improvement, including through change management.
* Communicate clearly, including providing on-the-job training and assistance as needed.
* Optimize resource utilization by implementation of an effective leadership group, including supervising and motivating the team of blue and white collars, as well as analyzing daily reports.
* Execute on the commercial contract in place with Industeel.
* Meet KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators) to meet or exceed efficiency and performance standards.
* Prepare weekly reports of all the production activities and respond to information requests from site, division and corporate teams as well as customer on site.
* Control and coordination of all mill service activities, including: - Slag pot carrying/pit digging, - Metal recovery plant, - Scrap breaking and cutting, - Rental work with personnel and equipment, - Environmental services.
* Plan for efficient and effective operations, including compliance with all company policies, practices and procedures, including with respect to spare parts, equipment and other site resource needs.
Other associated activities:
* In conjunction with maintenance, implement and manage a coordinated weekly planned and corrective maintenance schedule, ensuring reliable equipment is maintained to meet production targets and goals.
* Prepare production schedules for each project.
* Comply with cost savings initiatives, identify, and recognize ways to reduce costs and enhance revenue, including treating any company expense that same you would if it was your own money.
* Monitor the production process, and adjust schedule as needed to manage headcounts and payroll expenses.
* Coordinate, set up and implement standard operating procedure for all production operations.
* Ensure all expenses are submitted and authorized prior to any financial commitments and receipts of all goods and services are completed within the correct financial period.
* Function as part of a team and align with core values to meet company policies and goals, escalating and reporting issues that require further assistance as appropriate.
* Lead by example and adhere to safety requirements in both a slag and scrap yard environment. Always have proper PPE if entering operational work areas outside the office.
* Comply with all intake and outgoing best practices and protocols as directed or in compliance with customer requirements.
Profile/Skills:
* Fluent French and at least a B2/C1 level in English is mandatory.
* At least five (5) years of proven experience as an Operations Manager in an industrial setting, ideally metallurgy or close.
* Excellent people skills to work with steel mill management, external customs, and operational personnel.
* Ability to train, support and coordinate personnel.
* Commitment to working safely and to standards required.
* Demonstrated ability to be self-directed, team oriented, work with minimum supervision and lead by example.
* High school degree and college education and/or sufficient work experience in similar work environment.
