Job Description
The Educational Designer (ED) plays a pivotal role in the design, recognition, development, and continuous improvement of educational programmes and courses, tailored to adult learners in business education. This role supports the academic community by developing and implementing best practices in teaching, learning, and assessment, aligned with lifelong learning principles and informed by the latest trends in educational sciences.
The position ensures that SBSEM’s lifelong learning programmes’ (LLPs) learning experiences are impactful, relevant, and aligned with the highest industry and academic standards. This role is part of the Education Services Center (ESC), a department in charge of LLPs design, recognition, delivery and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Programme & Course Design
* Lead the development, design, and redesign of programmes in alignment with the institution's educational goals and learner needs (Five Principles for Teaching, Learning to achieve programme approach in LLPs)
* Develop and redesign courses, including selecting appropriate Teaching, Learning, and Assessment (TLA) activities, to create cohesive, engaging, and impactful learning experiences.
Educational Resources Development
* Create and maintain resources in the Teaching & Learning Handbook, articulating key principles and methods for effective facilitation in lifelong learning environments.
* Contribute to the development of frameworks and guidelines that promote effective teaching practices within the SLL community.
Competency Development & Continuous Improvement
* Advance the skills and competencies of the teaching community through the 5 Principles of Teaching & Learning (5PTLs) framework, offering guidance, consultations, and ongoing professional development initiatives.
* Monitor and integrate emerging trends in educational sciences to support programme innovation and maintain relevance to adult business education.
Professional Collaboration & Innovation
* Collaborate with faculty and programme leaders to ensure that educational design is aligned with learner objectives and organisational mission.
* Serve as a resource for programme teams by providing insight into innovative teaching practices, learning modalities, and assessment strategies.
Assurance of Learning
* Coordinate the recognition of programmes with relevant authorities, ensuring compliance with the “Décret définissant le paysage de l'enseignement supérieur et l'organisation académique des études” in the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles (FwB).
* Lead the assurance of learning process including the collection and analysis of (in)direct measurement of learning.
* Contributes to the achievements of school’s rankings for lifelong learning programmes.
* Assist on the management of accreditation for lifelong learning programmes including AACSB, AMBA, EQUIS and other national accreditations.
Requirements
* Bachelor or Master degree in Education or Educational Design, preferably with a specialisation in adult learning.
* At least 2-3 years experience in curriculum and course design, particularly within executive or adult education settings.
* Familiarity with the latest developments in educational science, and a passion for continuous improvement.
* Strong ability to work collaboratively with academic and administrative colleagues, as well as independently.
* Proficiency in educational technology and instructional design tools.
* Proficiency in French & English (written and verbal communication). Dutch is an asset.
* Expertise in adult learning principles and practices.
* Excellent organisational and project management skills.
* Ability to translate educational theory into practical, actionable program components.
* Attention to detail and commitment to high-quality educational standards.
