The World Organisation Against Torture Office in Brussels (OMCT Europe) is seeking to recruit a highly motivated, thorough and versatile individual, with a strong commitment to human rights and social justice causes, to be part of a small yet dynamic communications team and to take on significant responsibility for supporting the implementation of the OMCT communication strategic objectives.
ABOUT THE OMCT
The OMCT works with around 200 member organisations which constitute its SOS-Torture Network, to end torture, fight impunity and protect human rights defenders worldwide. Together, we make up the largest global group actively standing up to torture in more than 75 countries. Helping local voices be heard, we support our vital partners in the field and provide direct assistance to victims. Our headquarters is based in Geneva, with offices in Brussels and Tunis.
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Digital Communications Officer is responsible for developing and implementing OMCT’s digital communication strategy, with a focus on social media management, website optimization, and digital content creation. This role will drive OMCT’s online presence, engage diverse audiences, and support the organization’s advocacy and fundraising efforts through innovative digital campaigns. The Digital Communications Officer will support the Communications Team in implementing other communication activities, such as content production, media relations, and capacity building, as needed.
The Digital Communications Officer will act as the primary communications focal point for OMCT Europe, working under the supervision of the Director of Communications and in close collaboration with colleagues based in Brussels. In this capacity, the officer will play a crucial role in enhancing the organization's visibility and influence in Brussels while expanding OMCT's EU-related audiences through the implementation of targeted communication activities and campaigns.
Key responsibilities of the position include:
Digital strategy and implementation
* Develop and execute a comprehensive digital communications strategy aligned with OMCT’s mission and goals.
* Lead the management and optimization of OMCT’s digital channels, including social media platforms and website.
* Support internal communication efforts, including the development and enhancement of the internal newsletter for SOS-Torture Network members, as needed.
* Create resources and guidelines to ensure effective digital communication practices within the organization.
Website management
* Oversee website content management, ensuring the timely upload of up-to-date and relevant information.
* Manage the creation of the digital layout for the Annual Report on OMCT’s website and oversee its promotion on social media.
* Collaborate with external IT developers to enhance website functionality, improve user experience, and implement new features.
* Utilize website analytics tools to conduct regular analyses for donor reporting and to improve user experience and boost conversion rates.
Social media management
* Create and curate high-quality, engaging content for social media platforms, ensuring consistent messaging across all channels. Translate complex human rights issues into accessible and impactful digital formats, such as graphics, short videos, animations, and interactive features.
* Develop and execute paid social media campaigns to increase reach and engagement.
* Conceptualize, launch, and coordinate social media campaigns and initiatives to support OMCT’s human rights and fundraising efforts, particularly around key dates, events, and report launches.
* Monitor social media trends and adjust strategies to maximize impact and audience growth.
* Analyze social media metrics for donor reporting and provide internal recommendations for improvement.
Support to content production
* Collaborate with the Communications team to produce compelling content, including filming video interviews in Brussels and writing articles and blog posts, as needed.
* Coordinate with external designers, photographers, and videographers for content creation, as required.
Support to media relations
* Under the guidance and supervision of the Director of Communications, serve as the primary point of contact for Brussels-based media by developing and maintaining a comprehensive database of local and international media contacts, cultivating and expanding relationships with key journalists and outlets, proactively identifying media opportunities to showcase the work of OMCT and SOS Torture Network members, and coordinating interviews, as needed.
Support to capacity building
* Work with the Director of Communications to develop and deliver training sessions for OMCT staff, SOS-Torture Network members, and partners.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED
* Master’s degree in Digital Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field.
* 3–5 years of experience in digital communications, ideally in an international NGO or human rights organization.
* Proven experience managing successful social media accounts and digital campaigns.
* Advanced knowledge of social media platforms, web content management systems, and digital analytics tools.
* Proficiency in graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva) and video editing tools.
* Experience with email marketing platforms and SEO best practices.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and French; knowledge of Spanish is an asset.
* Strong understanding of human rights issues and advocacy.

OMCT is an equal opportunities employer.
Based on a 100% pensum, the range for the monthly gross salary for this post is between 2’970 and 3’200 EURO (times 12 months). OMCT offers a minimum of 20 days holidays (on 100% pensum) from the first year of employment, usual social benefits including meal vouchers and the possibility for part-time working from home.
