The Head of Quality Management will play a key role in shaping the quality assurance processes within Maintenance & Engineering, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements to maintain the highest levels of safety. This role requires a meticulous leader with a strong focus on continuous improvement, risk management, and fostering a culture of quality throughout all operational areas.
As the Head of Quality Management you will:
1. Act as a Nominated Person (NP) in accordance with aviation regulations, ensuring adherence to EASA Part-145 and EASA Part-CAMO standards.
2. Oversee all organizational operations within the Maintenance and Engineering (M&E) department to meet high safety and compliance standards.
3. Develop and maintain a Safety and Quality Management System in compliance with EASA requirements.
4. Conduct audits, manage safety processes, and promote a culture of quality awareness to prioritize operational efficiency while providing detailed reports on findings and improvements.
5. Safeguard the integrity and reliability of the airline’s maintenance and engineering functions.
6. Lead a team of 5–7 FTEs by assigning responsibilities, guiding performance, and supporting professional development.
7. Plan all regulatory audits in coordination with the BCAA and IOSA to ensure compliance with their requirements.
8. Ensure the validity of all technical operating approvals.
9. Verify that EASA requirements and standards mandated by foreign authorities and Brussels Airlines are met.
10. Report to the BCAA on all EASA Part-145 and CAMO reportable occurrences and one-off releases.
11. Implement, maintain, and continuously improve the technical Quality System.
12. Enforce compliance with new or revised EASA requirements within M&E.
13. Monitor, improve, and develop the Quality & Safety System in collaboration with the Accountable Manager and M&E Management team.
14. Balance “Protection” and “Production” to ensure safe and cost-effective operations.
15. Foster a corporate culture prioritizing health, safety, and quality by promoting awareness and encouraging a strong safety assurance mindset.
16. Facilitate cross-departmental partnerships and promote open communication using standardized tools and processes.
17. Inform the Head of M&E about the Quality and Safety System’s performance, audit findings, and irregularities.
18. Deliver regular statistics on Quality & Safety issues to support decision-making.
19. Publish and maintain the Brussels Airlines Reporting System, CAME, and MOE, ensuring processes remain up-to-date and compliant.
20. Establish and manage key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure success and drive performance.
21. Stay informed about regulatory changes from BCAA and EASA, share relevant updates with the M&E team, and ensure ongoing compliance.
22. Collaborate with third-party providers to exchange hazard and risk information, monitoring industry safety trends to enhance the Safety Management System.
23. Build and maintain strong relationships within the Lufthansa Group to ensure alignment on standards, best practices, and shared initiatives.
24. Plan and carry out internal and external audits and inspections in coordination with the LHG.
25. Monitor deficiencies identified during audits and propose corrective measures.
26. Investigate occurrences, incidents, and accidents.
27. Conduct operational risk assessments (ORA) within M&E.
28. Oversee and coordinate the execution of Airworthiness Review Certificates (ARC) for the fleet.
29. Manage collaboration between ARC engineers and CAMO’s technical departments to address airworthiness findings.
30. Plan and ensure adequate training for auditors and employees involved in quality and safety assurance.
31. Verify employee qualifications through regular assessments.
32. Cultivate a positive environment by aligning teams with organizational objectives.
33. Mentor and coach individuals to support professional growth and leadership development.
34. Empower employees by encouraging autonomy and assigning deputies for continuity.
35. Guide teams through change with empathy and clear communication, addressing concerns to build trust.
Required Diploma and Experience:
1. University degree (Master) in Aeronautical Engineering or equivalent experience
2. Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Quality & Safety Manager in the aviation industry incl. investigation courses and auditing or equivalent experience
3. Excellent understanding of IOSA and EASA regulations (Part-145, Part-147, Part-M, Part-CAMO, Part-66, Part-21) with proven track record
4. Proven management experience, demonstrating the ability to lead teams effectively and foster a positive work environment
5. High integrity and confidentiality
6. Collaborative team player with strong leadership, communication and conflict management skills
7. Resilience, reliability, and responsibility and the ability to work under stress
8. Strong organizational skills and excellent technical knowledge - Knowledge in Project and Change Management
9. Proficiency in MS Office
10. Proficient in English (verbal and written); Dutch is preferred, and French is a plus
