Role Overview We are looking for a Public Affairs Advisor who will monitor and manage key policy dossiers relevant to the plastics recycling industry, provide proactive advocacy and strategic counsel, and coordinate cross-industry initiatives on the circular economy. In this role, you will support PRE’s engagement with EU institutions, Member States, and other stakeholders, reporting directly to the management team. Key Responsibilities Policy Monitoring & Management Track and analyze EU-level policies, legislation, and initiatives on waste, plastics, product standards, environment, climate, trade and energy as well as any other relevant files. Identify emerging policy trends, risks, and opportunities, providing timely briefings and recommendations to PRE. Advocacy & Stakeholder Engagement Develop and implement advocacy strategies to influence decision-makers, aligning with PRE’s overall mission and objectives. Proactively build and maintain relationships with European institutions, Member States, and industry stakeholders. Represent PRE at policy events, conferences, and receptions, acting as a credible advocate for the recycling industry. Cross-Industry Coordination Lead and coordinate cross-industry initiatives focused on the circular economy, ensuring alignment among diverse partners. Collaborate with PRE’s communications team to combine political communication with broader public relations efforts, amplifying messages through multiple channels. Engage with member companies to consolidate their positions, translating them into concrete action (e.g., position papers, consultation responses, conference contributions). Strategic Consultation & Reporting Provide strategic advice on legislative developments, contributing to the formulation of policy and advocacy positions. Prepare and present clear, concise reports and policy briefings for senior management and member companies. Maintain regular updates on policy outcomes and monitor the effectiveness of advocacy efforts, adapting strategies as needed. Understand the needs of the business in order to prioritize activities and identify threats and opportunities. Qualifications & Experience Must-Have University degree (Master’s level) in political science, law, public policy, economics, or a related field. Minimum 3 years of professional experience in EU public affairs, with a focus on environmental, waste, or circular economy legislation being a plus. In-depth knowledge of the functioning of European institutions and legislative processes. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Preferred Experience in the plastics, waste management, or sustainability sectors; knowledge of EU environmental legislation is a strong asset. Proficiency in an additional European language. Proven track record of stakeholder management across public, private, and voluntary sectors. Networking & Relationship-Building: Skilled at forging and maintaining partnerships with policymakers, industry groups, and NGOs.
