The Senior Public Policy Manager, Payments will join a growing and dynamic team that works across Europe in support of Amazon’s global consumer business. Like our business interests, our policy issues are broad, forward-thinking, and driven by what is best for our customers. The International Public Policy team works with a wide range of national, local, and supranational policymakers, industry organizations, and non-governmental organizations across policy issues spanning the consumer and commercial environment, including but not limited to digital policy, consumer policy, economic policy, privacy, intellectual property, logistics, fintech and tax policy.
The Senior Public Policy Manager, Payments, will be part of the EU Public Policy Team based in Brussels, and will be responsible for partnering with policymakers and officials at EU institutional and national Government level. The Senior Manager will formulate, coordinate, and implement government engagement strategies to support our Payments business with governments across the EU, as well as drive engagements with regulators and the intergovernmental organizations. The Senior Manager will lead Amazon’s engagement with relevant external stakeholders and coalitions. The Senior Manager will work closely with Amazon’s public policy, public relations, legal, and payments business functions to establish the public policy and advocacy agenda. The Senior Manager will monitor and report relevant political and legislative, develop positioning and engagement strategies, draft collateral, and coordinate external advocacy efforts, outreach programs, and key initiatives in concert with business objectives. The Senior Manager will work with Public Policy team members around Europe to facilitate high-level meetings for with key policymakers, association executives, and other relevant stakeholders involving business leaders as necessary. The Senior Manager will also work with in-country Public Policy team members to determine, maintain, and staff corporate membership opportunities in industry associations and political organizations, as appropriate. The Senior Manager will be willing to travel internationally.
The default location for the position would be Brussels but is flexible upon the right candidate profile.
Key job responsibilities
As Public Payments Senior Manager EU, you will be leading and driving Amazon’s engagement with relevant EU institutional and national policymakers, trade associations, and industry alliances on political and/or legislative issues, and manage consultancy support. You will be able to manage and drive high priority projects and drive internal strategic planning and coordination with business, legal, compliance, PR and other partner teams. You will be a subject-matter expert on EU politics, policy and lawmaking to develop outreach strategies and drive advocacy objectives that support our payments business organizational goals. You will be a team player, able to work collaboratively and respectfully within broader European and global structures, to earn trust and build partnership with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders. You will demonstrate an astute understanding of the EU public policy and regulatory environment.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Relevant public policy and advocacy experience on payments and financial services issues, e.g. within corporate public policy, public affairs consultancy, trade associations or government.
A keen understanding of EU politics and policy, EU lawmaking processes and government relations.
High judgment and ability to make the right trade-offs between priorities, resources and scope in order to deliver on multiple projects.
English oral and written fluency
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master Degree or Advanced Degree in a field relevant to the role (Law, Economics, Political Science, Finance)
Knowledge and experience in advocacy and public policy development and campaign execution pertaining to existing and emerging payments and financial services policy issues in the EU.
Demonstrated ability to effectively and comfortably interact at highest corporate and political levels.
Outstanding oral and written communication skills is required, and a proven ability to convey complex arguments.
Experience in government or within corporate business, advisory firms or trade association, preferably but not necessarily in fintech.
Ability to maintain highest personal levels of ethical conduct, confidentiality and integrity, with a strong professional reputation in the industry.
Proven track record of successfully working with a wide array of functional groups across an organization and cultures as well as working independently.
Ability to identify and understand key technical aspects pertaining to corporate operations in legislative and regulatory proposals, understand business implications, and synthesize policy documents for internal and external customers.
Ability to influence, negotiate with, and persuade others is required. Must be flexible and demonstrate strong judgment/decision-making skills, and political acumen.
Fluency in a second language, including French, is preferred.
