We’re looking for a Head of In vitro & In vivo ADME who is passionate and innovative to join us in our DMPK group, based in Braine l'Alleud Belgium.
About the role
This position is a scientific and strategic position in the DMPK department which is a part of Early Clinical Development -Translational Science (ECD-TS) group in the Patient Solutions Unit, UCB, reporting directly to Head of DMPK.
The ideal candidate thrives in a collaborative work environment and is skilled at working on multiple projects concurrently along the full value chain from early discovery to post marketing. In addition, the candidate will be a highly motivated individual who leads and enjoys having broad responsibilities and opportunities as well as being able to provide clear scientific and strategic direction, including novel methodologies and platforms using state of the art technologies for the assessment of ADME properties of our pipeline.
Who you’ll work with
You will ensure a close relationship within the ECD-TS organization as well as other departments in Patient Solutions and use expert in-depth knowledge of drug metabolism and transporter processes, enzyme / transporter expression needed to outline drug disposition in preclinical species as well as in humans.
What you’ll do
1. You will have management responsibilities for employees in both Braine L’Alleud (Belgium) and in Slough (UK).
2. You will ensure a highly innovative mindset among staff and guide development of new assays in the DMPK/ADME arena.
3. Tactically assign resources (personnel, space, and equipment), implement programs, and drive process improvement to assure financial and budget expectations are met.
4. Ensure quality and timely delivery of the project deliverables, in close contact with DMPK project representatives.
5. The role holder may act as DMPK project representative, delivering the early DMPK strategy.
6. Increase ADME/DMPK visibility (internally & externally) by demonstrating scientific excellence and credibility, representing UCB in conferences, act as committee member on external scientific boards and organizations and engage in collaborations with academic institutions.
7. Interact with and influence key collaborators/stakeholders and leaders across Development Science for an overall understanding of the science needed to progress the UCB pipeline.
8. Contribute to clinical plans, regulatory communications and submission documents.
Interested? For this role we’re looking for the following education, experience and skills
1. PhD in Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology, Drug metabolism and Pharmacokinetics, or a related degree with significant industrial experience in the area of DMPK science.
2. Demonstrated managerial and leadership skills.
3. Knowledge of the drug development processes in Pharma Industry environment.
4. Experience of leading, understanding and hands-on for drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics, both in vitro and in vivo studies including human PK prediction, DDI prediction and mechanistic understanding to support late-stage programs.
5. A strong understanding of studies (QWBA and Mass balance) using non-labeled and 14C and 3H-labeled compounds in animals and humans.
6. Proven skills for in-depth mechanistic understanding of DMPK related issue and of the impact and value of translation to humans.
7. You will also have awareness of national/international regulatory principles and guidelines regarding assessment of ADME/DMPK properties of molecules.
