The Department of Electronics and ICT in the Faculty of Applied Engineering is looking for a full-time (100%) senior expert in the field of the design of Integrated Circuits and Electronic Systems Engineering.
Position
* You will be part of the Flanders Chips Competence Centre (FC3), an interuniversity centre to assist the industry in using electronic and photonic integrated circuits as part of their value proposition. The FC3 is being funded by the European Union as part of the Chips Joint Undertaking (Digital Europe).
* You will work closely together with all four contributing partners in the FC3, i.e. next to UAntwerp, also UGent, VUBrussel and KULeuven, towards the common goal: assisting the industry in Flanders.
* To this end, you will be active in the following areas:
o You will provide expertise directly to industry regarding system- and board-level design and the use of integrated circuits in their product offerings.
o You will create and organise a training offer for the industry that fulfils its needs regarding competences for integrated, photonic and system-level design. You will search for and motivate the available experts in the contributing partner universities and industry.
o You will build demonstrators that (a) show the industry the capabilities of the FC3 and (b) show them what it requires to reach a similar level. UAntwerp is responsible for the work package on pathfinding demonstrators. You will demonstrate the realised portfolio both to individual companies as on big events for peers and the general public.
o You will query and visit the potential audience of the FC3 regularly to get to know their needs and to deepen and broaden the impact of the FC3.
o You will be connecting the customers of the FC3 with a network of experts the FC3 will build on the domains on which you are not the expert.
o You will report to the University of Antwerp and the FC3 on the current activities and assist the UAntwerp and the FC3 to comply with EU project-reporting requirements.
Profile
* You either hold a PhD in electronics and ICT engineering (or you will have obtained it by the time you start work) or you show expertise in that field that brings you on a similar expert level.
* You have significant experience in electronic systems design, including hands-on complex, high-speed PCB design.
* Your teaching competences are in line with the University of Antwerp’s educational vision.
* You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation.
* Preferably, you speak and write Dutch fluently. In case you do not, your English must be close to native speaker level.
* You can speak and write fluently in English.
o You are a strong networker, showing interest and respect for parties that contact you for assistance.
o You are a good team worker, focusing on the common goals of the FC3, taking into account the vision and mission of the University, instead of focusing on your own personal goals.
o You can communicate your technical opinion in a clear and positive way.
What we offer
* We offer a full-time contract as a project manager for a period of 4 years.
* Your gross monthly salary is calculated according to the pay scale for a principal research fellow in the Contract Research Staff category (Dutch: Bijzonder Academisch Personeel, BAP).
o You will receive ecocheques, internet-connectivity allowance, a group insurance, an income protection insurance, and a bicycle allowance or a full reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting.
o The planned start date is 15 February 2025 or as soon as possible after that date.
