AI Compute is a department in the AI & Algorithms expertise center at imec that develops advanced AI compute solutions involving AI models, algorithms, implementations, sensors and hardware for small scale edge up to large scale distributed and hybrid hardware architectures. The applications domains are diverse, ranging from AI for science, over AI for process technologies to automotive and health applications. AI Models is a group within the AI Compute department focusing on innovative AI models. At Imec, we are strengthening our AI Models team to focus on Machine Learning algorithm optimization techniques bridging the gap between software and the underlying hardware. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of how AI algorithms interact with the system architecture. If you are an AI expert with love for system-level analysis, enjoy optimizing software performance on existing or novel compute architectures, and excited about diving deep into algorithm optimization, is this the perfect role for you. What you will do
Understand and optimize performance of deep learning libraries through deep knowledge of AI frameworks, algorithms, models, and related hardware.
Be responsible for setting up AI workloads, analyzing and developing optimization techniques for existing and future compute architecture in collaboration with different stakeholders.
Explore new algorithms/optimizations for custom architectures to enable SW-HW co-design.
Stay up-to-date with the latest deep learning literature to implement state-of-the-art algorithms.
Follow up on progress within research projects and communicate the accomplished/in-process work to internal and external stakeholders and adapt where needed.
During the first few years, be an integral part of our ongoing EuroHPC DARE project that aims to drive Europe’s independence in high-performance computing and AI.
Have a PhD, preferably in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent.
Possess a strong background with parallel programming and proven ability of CUDA and Python programming.
Have experience with modern Deep Learning Frameworks (PyTorch, Tensorflow, Jax).
Experience with distributed training frameworks (e.g., Ray, Dask, PyTorch Lightning).
Strong background in algorithmic optimization techniques like quantization, pruning, and distributed training methodologies.
Experience in software performance analysis and optimization.
Prior experience with optimizing AI for AI Compute Architectures is a plus.
Understanding of performance analysis tools and hardware optimization techniques.
Be a team player with strong communication skills.
Fluent in English, both speaking and writing.
