A unique research position to accelerate your technical and personal excellence by developing cryogenic electro-optic device technology!
Researcher Quantum Electro-Optics
What you will do
Quantum information technology promises unique possibilities for science and society (Secure communication, Resource Optimization, or Drug Design). Yet, enabling this technology is a monumental task, which requires a large variety of technological advancement to enable low-cost chip-scale quantum technologies. In this post-doctoral project, we will investigate how pushing the limits of electro-optics can help. For instance, connecting cryogenic quantum computing with quantum communication is in strong need of electro-optic devices that go beyond the state-of-the-art. Your responsibilities within our team will be associated with the Qamp ERC starting grant project. In detail this means:
1. Developing a cryogenic electro-optic device technology
2. Exploring advanced electro-optic materials
3. Pushing the limits of nanofabrication
4. Co-integration of superconductors and photonic circuits
Transition towards a leading position in academic or industry will require you to also expand your personal and professional skills. To do that you will have the following opportunities and we will guide and mentor you during this journey.
5. We envision you to not just be a “project executer” but really become a mentor of a small cohort of three PhD students associated to the ERC grant.
6. Actively pursue your own research to branch out and grow your own research field.
7. Helping to kick-start our cryogenic electro-optic lab.
What we do for you
We offer you the opportunity to join one of the world’s premier research centers in nanotechnology at its headquarters in Leuven, Belgium. With your talent, passion and expertise, you’ll become part of a team that makes the impossible possible. Together, we shape the technology that will determine the society of tomorrow.
We are aware that your valuable contribution makes imec a top player in its field. Your energy and commitment are therefore appreciated by facilitating your further career development:
8. imec values a cooperative spirit. What does it mean for you? You can easily collaborate across teams and fields with our 5000+ colleagues. Thus, directly learn from the many leading experts in nanotechnology, metrology, system architecture, etc. and accelerate your research.
9. Extensive support infrastructure (automated measurement department, leading edge metrology department, public funding department, that will allow you to concentrate on your research.
10. Competitive imec payroll contract for a fixed term of two years.
11. Long term perspective in science! We grow our scientific high potentials in scientific leadership. Imec has a structural scientific career path, along which you can pursue a professional career as a researcher. Our post-docs also have easy access to open positions in one of the many companies of the semiconductor industry that work with imec or can transfer to an academic position at university.
12. We support our most promising young researchers in applying for an ERC starting grant to build up their own research group within imec that aligns with imec's vision. Furthermore, imec provides internal funding mechanisms to start new research endeavors that can lead to impactful technologies in the future. imec strongly supports start-up initiatives.
13. Imec is the crossroad where all semiconductor players meet to tackle fundamental research questions and technology bottlenecks. This allows you to build a unique network within academia and industry that you will be able to leverage for any future career.
14. Belgium and imec value family and support young researchers extensively (childcare for the youngest, flexible working hours understanding that family affairs are of high importance).
15. Through y, 'our corporate university', we actively invest in your development to further your technical and personal growth.
We are proud of our open, multicultural, and informal working environment with ample possibilities to take initiative and show responsibility. We commit to supporting and guiding you in this process, not only with words but also with tangible actions.
