About the role
Aligned with the market trend towards decarbonizing calcination and glass technologies, Lhoist has been pioneering the development of new products and processes. These innovations undergo rigorous testing at the laboratory scale before being scaled up for industrial implementation. Our business innovation team is currently looking for a junior R&D engineer to support us in the journey from laboratory development to on-site testing at client facilities. The primary objective will be to translate laboratory ideas into tangible business successes, aligned with our commitment to sustainable and market-oriented innovation.
As a Junior R&D Engineer Glass and Calcination (VIE), you will report to the R&D Engineer Calcination and be part of the Research & Development team. You will be responsible for supporting the Calcination and Glass teams on ongoing projects focused on the glass market and decarbonization of the calcination technology.
Your role and responsibilities:
1. To take part in the development of new lab methodologies, support ongoing CAPEX projects, continuous improvement of lab practices and methods, writing protocols, and conducting risk assessments.
2. To plan experiments, run lab tests, treat the results, and communicate the results with different stakeholders.
3. To take an active part in organizing and carrying out industrial trials.
4. To contribute to market intelligence initiatives (active market watch).
5. To consolidate results in reports and presentations to communicate them to internal and external stakeholders.
About you:
You hold a master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related field. Specialization in glass, prior internships, and some knowledge of the glass market are a plus. You are quick to grasp business concepts, hold a business mindset, and are able to develop trust-based and professional relationships with key stakeholders both internally and externally. You know the basics of project management and can actively participate in a project, respecting the phases, milestones, deadlines, and stakeholders. You are action-oriented and have a proactive and organized approach to work. You are eager to learn from the experts around you and can be autonomous when necessary. You have full professional proficiency in English; French or another language is a plus. You can start anytime between June-August 2024.
