About the role
UCB has a long-standing engagement towards epilepsy patients. Build our understanding of the disease in all its aspects and find novel treatments to cure patients is a key mission. The selected candidate will be part of the in vitro pharmacology team on our Braine L’Alleud, Belgium site – working together with our epilepsy research team towards this goal.
This position is mainly lab based, but also includes time for experimental design, data analysis and presentations. All in collaboration with & supported by the candidate’s supervisor. Within the VIE position, UCB offers an industry focused opportunity to gain lab experience and extensive training in basic & state of the art methodologies and equipment. Furthermore, the candidate will have, within the scope of the position, the opportunity to partake in (technical) trainings offered to UCB by external partners.
What you’ll do
The research encompasses in vitro assay development, ranging from biochemical, biophysical to cellular methodologies. In addition, we will create appropriate cell lines, based on patient data. These lines will complement & follow up on target screening approaches. Together, this can allow a bedside to bench and back approach.
The candidate will develop assays & insights focused on epilepsy yet with potential uses towards a broader scope of neurological disease indications (PD, AD, neuromuscular diseases, ...).

1. Degree : Master (or PhD) in biological sciences (biology, biochemistry, biotechnology) or pharmacy
2. Languages : English, French
3. Soft skills : proactive, organized, team-player
4. Expertise in cell culture and/or imaging assays development would be a plus

6. Hold the nationality of a member country of the European Economic Area;
7. Have not worked or lived in the country where the mission will take place;
8. Be available to dedicate yourself to the mission full-time;
9. If you have French nationality or dual nationality, be in compliance with the national service obligations of France (Numéro Identifiant Défense);
10. Have a clean criminal record.
