Position
We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design and development of our innovative space robotics applications (in-orbit and planetary), in challenging ESA and EC funded projects
These projects cover the following topics:
* Active space mechanisms and their integration in robotics systems
* Space actuators and robotics manipulators for on-orbit servicing
* Lunar exploration rovers and in-situ resource utilisation facilities
* Health countermeasures systems for astronauts for the future spacecraft and space stations.
The successfull will be part of the Robotics, Mechanisms and Structures (RMS) Team (comprised of 10 persons).
The candidate will mainly report to the RMS Team Lead and the Project Managers of the Flight System Team.

Tasks and Responsibilities
* Provide technical and management leadership to a Team of Mechanical Designers and Engineers.
* Conceptualise, design and optimise mechanical systems for space applications, ensuring compliance with project specifications and industry/space standards.
* Carry out functional analysis, design trade-offs and early validation with prototyping approaches
* Perform end-to-end CAD design, optimisation and prepare models and drawings for manufacturing
* Evaluate and select appropriate materials and processes, considering applications and environmental constraints
* Collaborate with cross-functional Teams (Electrical, Systems and Quality Engineers) for seamless design integration
* Iterate with Simulation Engineers for structural and thermal analyses considerations
* Work closely with external partners and suppliers, for selection of the appropriated components
* Support the testing, qualifications and acceptance activities
* Implement and adhere to quality control process throughout the design and development lifecycle
* Conduct and lead design and cross-functional reviews, with the team and external stakeholders
* Generate the technical documentation required all along the processes.
Skills and Experience
* A Master’s or PhD degree in mechanical or robotics engineering
* At least 5 years of experience in mechanical design for space applications (space mechanisms is an asset)
* High proficiency with CAD software, with proven track record of complex mechanisms and robotics design
* Excellent knowledge of materials, tolerances, manufacturing processes and supply chain for space products
* Good knowledge for space engineering life cycle, design standards (ECSS, NASA, ISO and MIL-STD) and practices, and qualification/acceptance processes
* Good understanding of mechanical simulation and analyses (structural, thermal and vibration) stakes and issues
* Strength to cope with schedules and deadlines
* Ability to work in distributed international teams with excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills
* Excellent organisational and communication skills
* Very Good written and spoken English.
