Your Work Context
Pioneering dredging and environmental projects, innovative offshore and civil works. With us, it's always ground-breaking and just that little bit more challenging - and you don't necessarily need to have sailor's legs to do so. Whether you are on board our global fleet, at work in the office or on a domestic site: boundaries are constantly being pushed!
Your Role
The Legal Department provides advice to the various divisions within Jan De Nul Group. This translates into highly varied legal advice for our offshore, dredging, civil and environmental activities. You work in a generalist manner and want to go deeper where necessary. We are looking for a full-time Corporate Lawyer dedicated to Jan De Nul Group's offshore and dredging divisions.
From this position, you will participate in tenders for offshore and dredging projects worldwide. In this capacity, the identification, analysis and management of legal and contractual risks are of paramount importance. Your function will mainly focus on commercial and construction law, both at national and international level.
You will play a key role in the preparation and submission of tenders to our clients. This also includes setting up joint ventures with partners and subcontracting. You advise regional management, tender and project managers. You work closely with colleagues in the legal department and with the technical, operational, commercial and financial department. You are also directly involved in contract negotiations. In your role, you not only defend the legal interests, but also pay attention to the technical, operational, commercial and financial aspects.
Your main duties and responsibilities will be:
1. Analysing tender documents (for both public and private clients), identifying legal and contractual risks and providing practical advice to mitigate such risks;
2. Drafting and reviewing various types of commercial contracts (construction contracts, engineering contracts, subcontracts, joint venture agreements, shareholder agreements, etc.) and participating in contract negotiations;
3. Follow up disputes (amicable and arbitration) in cooperation with the project team and, if necessary, with external lawyers.
You work from our central and easily accessible offices in Aalst (Belgium) and are willing to travel abroad. You will therefore have internationally oriented work in a dynamic organisation with the opportunity to make a real impact on our cases. With a view to a healthy work-life balance, you may occasionally work from home.
What do you need to have.
You have a master's degree in law, with at least 5 years of relevant work experience, preferably as a lawyer or in-house counsel in an international environment. You have experience in commercial law and contracting law. You have an affinity and/or interest in immersing yourself in our maritime offshore and dredging projects. Previous experience or affinity with Maritime Law is a plus.
You have strong analytical skills and written communication is one of your strengths. You have a practical, no-nonsense mentality, are business-minded and solution-oriented. You are a team player but also able to work independently and prioritise. You are pragmatic, open-minded, flexible and stress-resistant. You have a talent for negotiating and drafting complex contracts and transactions. You are fluent in Dutch and English. Knowledge of other languages (especially French and/or Spanish) is a plus.
You are flexible and willing to travel abroad for short business trips.
