Your Work Context
Jan De Nul is a pioneer in building at sea. We install infrastructure for renewable energy, enable transport by water, protect our coastlines, and build state-of-the-art ports. To do so, we use a diverse dredging and offshore fleet. An important part of our dredging fleet are the backhoes. A backhoe, also sometimes called a backactor dredger, is a pontoon with a very large hydraulic excavator that excavates the soil underwater and unloads it into a split hopper barge.
Your Role
As a backhoe operator, together with your colleagues on board, you are responsible for the execution and organization of mooring operations, operating the backhoe excavator on board, maintenance, and inspection of the equipment.
Your duties will be as follows:
* You will assist the 1st backhoe operator in mooring operations, lifting operations, and general operation of the backhoe/backactor dredger.
* On a daily basis, you will inspect the dredging equipment.
* You perform necessary maintenance work (greasing, replacing bucket teeth, etc.) on the dredging equipment.
* You organize weekly HSE inspections of the equipment on board and perform them as required.
For this, we are looking for candidates with the following profile:
* You have extensive experience with land cranes.
* Experience with hydraulic excavators is a plus but not a must.
* You speak English fluently.
* You have a technical background.
* You are hands-on and not afraid to get your hands dirty.
Working at Jan De Nul
* In this position, you will work in a challenging rotational schedule of 6 weeks of work followed by 6 weeks of leave. During your work period, you will work 12h/day and 7 days a week.
* You will work on board of our backhoes yet sleep in a nearby hotel (not on board the ships). The location of this employment is spread worldwide and varies according to our projects.
* Through the JDN-Academy, we offer you a permanent training programme.
* A caring culture: through our FIT programme, we watch over your well-being. Attention is paid to exercise, nutrition, and a healthy work-life balance.
* The opportunity to make a difference with your colleagues, to distinguish yourself through creativity, innovation, and sustainability.
