And together, we will redefine success.Role purposeThe Head of Business Development Marketing for Belgium will be responsible for leading the local BDM function and team. As trusted advisor to the partnership, you contribute to setting and achieving the commercial objectives of AO Shearman Belgium. You support partners and seniors in building and maintaining long-term client relationships, acquiring new clients, developing a strong profile in the market, and strengthening the market position of the firm. You work closely with the Head of BDM Continental Europe and other BDM teams within AO Shearman to provide high-quality and efficient support. People management will be an important element of the job. There is a professional and successful BD team in place and the new Head will need excellent people management and empowerment skills. The role is based in our Brussels or Antwerp office.Role and responsibilitiesBusiness Development Client Relationship ManagementProactively work with Partners on marketing/business development/communication issues and plans, inputting ideas and providing advice, establishing yourself as a trusted advisor. Be seen as the custodian of best practice in relation to the development and execution of business development/client relationship plans;Form, implement and develop the Belgian business development plan and obtain buy-in from the Belgian Partners to what is contained;Drive the development of a client programme in Belgium, in close cooperation with global sector and client management;Proactively identify opportunities in line with the business development plan and pursue them in conjunction with the business;Identify and consult with the Belgian partnership regarding marketing/BD initiatives and programs that result in the advancement of the practice and revenue growth;Use market intelligence to aid market planning and effective client engagement;Meet with clients regularly, whether formally as part of client relationship management or informally at firm events. Use this interaction to improve the firm’s relationship with the client, to identify opportunities and to improve the firm’s business development and marketing activities;Belgian ‘ambassador’ – engage partners/BD in the whole firm to aid cross-selling and pursuits.Marketing, Events CommunicationDrive the development and execution of marketing, comms and events plan that makes the Belgium office and partners stand out in the market;Input innovative ideas for events, lead and challenge the organisation of complex events together with the Marketing Events Officer (in-person, virtual and hybrid programs);Give advisory support to any member of the business undertaking client entertainment;Stay abreast of all the latest trends within the industry including attending industry conferences and networking events;Press Relations Client comms – Support the comms professional, ensure coverage and positioning of the Belgian practice in line with the brand and continue to build the firm's profile, drive strong profiling of the office/firm/partners in all relevant media channels, ensure high quality client communications.Management LeadershipProvide strong leadership to the BD team, as well as day-to-day management responsibility, ensuring that the team performs up to standards – quality, efficiency and resilience are key;Responsible for the Belgian BD budgets, ensuring that all external marketing, business development and communication activities are delivered in the most cost-effective manner and within budget;Act as part of the Belgian Management team, working closely with the other Heads (HR, Business Services, Finance, Risk).Who we are looking forYou are an experienced marketing business development professional with:a Master’s degree in Communication, PR, Marketing, (Business) Economics, Law, Management or a related field;at least 10 years of Professional Services Marketing and Business Development experience at a senior level;people management experience (ability to guide and support team growth);a strong client account management focus;an excellent knowledge (written and spoken) of English as well as Dutch and/or French (with at least a good understanding of the other language);a strong knowledge of the Belgian business landscape;tenacity and enthusiasm – driven by delivery under pressure and end results;the versatility to work as a team player with colleagues from other countries on cross-border activities;effective interpersonal, communication and influencing skills.Application processPlease upload your application by clicking 'apply for job'.
