Electrical Test & Reliability R&D engineer – Automotive applications
What you will do
The design of chips in the semiconductor industry is changing, shifting from monolithic processors to multi-tile or chiplet packages. Higher flexibility and a faster time to market are promised by this type of fragmented architecture, while it remains cost-effective. This technology is crucial to the automotive sector since semiconductors are enabling a significant shift that includes self-driving cars and integrated artificial intelligence. One of the major challenges of this technology in the automotive industry is the concern for Quality and Reliability. It is, thus, becoming of paramount importance to experimentally identify, quantify, and later, control the physical mechanisms that affect the quality and reliability of chiplet packages. Examples of these mechanisms include the thermo-mechanical integrity of the assemblies, thermal management, and power delivery management, among others.
We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated R&D Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have experience in developing and building test benches for electrical, thermal and reliability assessment of custom electronics components.
In this role you will:
1. Design, assemble, debug and use the test systems which enable electrical, thermal and reliability characterization of the chiplet packages and their components and materials,
2. Evaluate and select materials suitable for automotive-grade chiplet packages, considering thermal conductivity, mechanical strength, and reliability,
3. Contribute to the designs of the integrated circuits by providing description (or full design) of electrical, thermal, or mechanical test structures,
4. Develop and maintain test bench design documentation,
5. Collaborate with test engineers to improve the quality and user-friendliness of the developed test benches,
6. Work collaboratively with design, mechanical, thermal and software engineers to improve overall quality and reliability of the chiplet packages.
7. Communicate the results to internal stakeholders, to imec’s industrial partners and to the scientific community.
