Internship Position
In the context of several research and development projects focused on autonomous systems and robotics, we are seeking a motivated intern to contribute to the development of online planning algorithms and techniques for both single-agent and multi-agent robotic platforms.
The successful intern will participate in the design, implementation, and testing of path planning and coordination strategies for mobile robots. This internship is hosted by the Robotics & Software Intelligence (RSI) division and may be organised to satisfy the requirements of a Master Thesis.
* Location: Sint-Stevens-Woluwe (Brussels Area)
* Duration: 6 months
* Start date: As of July 2025.
Tasks and Responsibilities
* Develop, evaluate, and optimise online planning algorithms for robotic agents operating in dynamic environments
* Investigate and implement coordination strategies for multi-agent systems, focusing on decentralised and centralised planning approaches
* Integrate and test planning components on both simulated and physical robotic platforms
* Support the deployment of software components and integration of sensors for real-time perception and planning.
Skills and Experience
* Currently enrolled in a Master’s degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field
* Solid programming experience in C++ and/or Python on Ubuntu
* Familiarity with the ROS2 framework within Docker for development and deployment
* Experience implementing and testing planning algorithms on real robotic systems
* Foundational knowledge in one or more of the following:
o Motion/path planning and trajectory optimisation
o Multi-agent task allocation and coordination
o Basic robotic kinematics and navigation
Considered as Assets
* Knowledge of online planning methods such as RRT*, D*, MPC, or Dec-MDPs
* Familiarity with multi-robot frameworks (e.g. ROS2 multi-node communication, swarm robotics platforms)
* ROS2 Behavior Trees.
