General Counsel Belgium & the Netherlands Role:
You will be (Senior) Legal Counsel within the ArcelorMittal Group Legal & Compliance organization, and as a member of the Belgian legal team, be the legal business partner to the Belgian and Dutch ArcelorMittal legal entities in their business activities. You will take an important legal advisory role to advise the business in the broad spectrum of its industrial, commercial, and financial operations. The ambitious and strategic technical transformation of steel production explains the intense reliance upon the legal team. You will provide advice and guidance on a wide variety of legal matters across a range of business environments in Belgium & The Netherlands. As a member of the European legal team, you will work as a generalist and will be able to work on (decarbonization) business projects, investment projects, transactions, partnerships, and JVs, etc., requiring knowledge of several legal areas including corporate law and M&A, contract law, commercial law, financial law, etc. Knowledge of environmental and/or energy law will be considered a plus. You will create added value by providing legal advice and drafting contracts for (cross border) projects. You will contribute to synergies of the Belgian and European legal organization by developing legal trainings, templates of agreements, and launching new legal knowledge exchange and digitization initiatives. You demonstrate strong project management skills and leadership qualities. Responsibilities: Acting as trusted senior legal advisor in Belgium & the Netherlands, proactively providing sound and pragmatic counseling while minimizing and mitigating legal risks. Advising on a wide variety of commercial and corporate matters, focusing on the areas above. Collaborating with external lawyers on more complex files when necessary. Coordinating and following up on disputes/litigations internally and externally with external lawyers. Delivering training to business teams on various legal and compliance-related matters. Participating in and supporting international legal initiatives of ArcelorMittal, sharing best practices, new challenges, developments, innovations, and efficiency-related projects. 5 to 10 years of work experience in a wide range of legal matters, particularly in commercial and corporate law, contract law, partnerships and JVs, investments, with a focus on setting up projects and transactions. Knowledge of environmental and/or energy law is a plus. Experience in an (inter)national law firm or (international) company is a prerequisite. Fluent in Dutch, English, and French. Education: Master’s degree in Belgian Law. Skills: Willingness and capability to be a “hands-on” lawyer, with a proactive, energetic, and enthusiastic approach. Ability to analyze and solve complex legal issues. Willingness to develop a thorough understanding of ArcelorMittal, its businesses, people, markets, facilities, and customers. Strong communication skills: ability to effectively communicate in an international environment with various stakeholders.
