Thales Belgium (Herstal site) is a world leader in precision guided rocket systems for helicopters and jet aircraft and is looking for a Head of System Engineering to meet its ambitious production and product development roadmap.
As Head of System Engineering, you will manage a multidisciplinary team within the Engineering department. You will be involved in the design, development, and qualification activities of new products or concepts, and in the technical support to Operations and Projects for the in-service product line. You will have the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art Model-Based Design methods and tools in a high-tech environment. You will be expected to support multiple projects and as such will require planning and organizing skills. The Head of System Engineering must be seen as a key capability for our company and is responsible for driving the Systems Engineering team to meet our challenges.
PROFILE:
1. You graduated with a Master of Engineering or any other relevant field in University, and you have significant experience in team management.
2. You have experience and expertise in the fields of aeronautics, space, electronics, applied mathematics, or physics.
3. You understand and want to oversee rocket systems and be immersed in a challenging and innovative environment with diverse technical projects.
4. You are a leader willing to engage and develop your team (up to 20 persons) through the use of collaborative work and challenging approaches.
5. You love to share knowledge and help people develop themselves, which enables you to be recognized as a great mentor and team player.
6. You are responsible and show a great sense of initiative.
7. You have a very good command of French and English.
COMPETENCES
1. You are able to empower and unite employees around clear objectives by acting as a coach and servant leader, which mobilizes influencing and “team first” skills.
2. You have substantial knowledge of Systems Engineering: embedded hardware, embedded software, algorithms, simulations, and modeling (Matlab/Simulink) to integrate rocket systems on platforms.
3. You have the ability to adopt a holistic approach to analyze a system, focusing on the way that a system’s constituent parts interrelate and how systems work over time and within the context of larger systems.
4. You are able to understand the system capabilities through functional, logical, and value analytics.
5. You understand the importance of requirements definition through a process using performance analysis, trade studies, constraint evaluation, and cost/benefit analysis. You are able to adopt a Model-Based Systems Engineering approach and see how it serves as a basis for architecture.
6. You have good notions of IVVQ (Integration/Verification/Validation/Qualification), R-A-M-T (Reliability/Maintainability/Availability/Testability), and associated norms and standards.
7. You demonstrate a strong desire for continuous improvement and a capacity to develop a strategic vision: you are able to integrate and even anticipate the various elements of your environment in order to guide the team through the challenges prompted by competitiveness.
8. You know how to adopt a Lean Management approach and apply Agile principles to the management and development of your team, in Scrum and/or Kanban mode.
