The role will report to the Global Head of Intellectual Property and will have deep connectivity with our commercial organization and the LCIP community. The position will lead and oversee all aspects of our global trademark portfolio management and brand protection strategies and will collaborate with the LCIP community to drive other key areas including copyright and trade secret matters and business development opportunities.Roles and Responsibilities:Trademark Portfolio Management: Lead the development, registration, and maintenance of a comprehensive global trademark portfolio for our current marketed products and develop proactive and effective strategies and measures for our pipeline assets. Ensure alignment of trademark strategies with argenx’s business objectives and market expansion goals. Advise on trademark clearance, prosecution, enforcement and renewal processes across multiple jurisdictions.Brand Protection: Develop and implement robust brand protection strategies to combat counterfeiting, gray market activities, and brand misuse. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to monitor and address risks to brand integrity in digital and physical marketplaces. Drive the adoption of advanced tools and technologies for online and offline brand monitoring.Global Strategy and Leadership: Set the strategic direction for trademarks and brand protection globally, considering regional and international regulatory frameworks. Lead cross-functional collaboration with LCIP, regulator, commercial, and marketing teams to ensure brand integrity. Serve as the principal advisor to company leadership on all trademark and brand protection matters.Copyright, Trade Secret & Business Development support: Oversee the creation, registration, and enforcement of copyrights related to the marketing, product packaging, and other proprietary materials and secure any required licenses to use third-party copyrighted subject matter to further our research, development, and commercialization activities. Collaborate with other LCIP community members to drive our trade secret protection strategies and support our Corporate Strategy and Business Development teams for in-licensing, out-licensing, and/or merger and acquisition opportunities.Litigation and Dispute Resolution: Manage trademark related litigation and disputes, ensuring effective defense or prosecution of inter partes matters.Skills and Competencies:Broad based knowledge of key legal concepts impacting commercialization and product branding in the pharmaceutical industry.First-rate judgment and business acumen, including understanding of business strategy and operations.Experience in specialty markets, particularly rare diseases, preferred.Highly analytical; uses data to support decisions; can clearly communicate complex ideas in a simple way to diverse audiences.Ability to work collaboratively and effectively together within cross-functional teams and networks.Demonstrated communication skills, within a multi-cultural and multi-lingual global environment.Is agile and demonstrates adaptability, comfort with ambiguity, trust-building, and resilience.Derives energy from operating in a dynamic, complex, fast-moving, and frequently changing business environment.Demonstrable experience with project management, proactive planning, priority setting, and securing alignment.Drives toward outcomes.Ambitious, inquisitive naturally, a quick study, with demonstrated eagerness to continuously learn, self-improve and develop. This includes being comfortable giving and receiving feedback in a diverse environment.Passionate and prepared to lead and contribute to our culture, which is driven by our corporate values of co-creation, innovation, empowerment, excellence, and humility.Education, Experience and Qualifications:Advanced degree in law (JD, LLM, or equivalent) with a specialization in intellectual property law.Minimum of ten years of relevant experience managing trademarks and brand protection ideally in the life sciences/biopharmaceuticals industry.Proven expertise in global trademark portfolio development, management, and enforcement.Experience with digital IP protection including online marketplaces, social media platforms and patient support programs is preferred.The successful candidate must be willing to periodically travel to our U.S. and Belgian sites to engage with our key communities.
