Head of Marketing, Communications and Advocacy
Position overview: The Head of Marketing, Communications, and Advocacy will lead JA Europe’s strategic efforts to amplify its mission, enhance brand visibility, and drive policy influence across Europe. This senior role oversees integrated communications, marketing campaigns, and advocacy initiatives, ensuring a cohesive voice and impactful engagement with stakeholders, media, and policymakers. The ideal candidate is a dynamic leader with expertise in multi-channel strategies, team management, and EU-level advocacy, committed to empowering youth through JA Europe’s network.
Supervisor: Chief Executive Officer
Type of Contract: Employee or Consultant contract (depending on location)
Location: Europe (remote)
Availability: Immediately
Available Budget: approximately 46,000/52,000 euros/Year Gross as employee. In the case of Consultant annual flat fee to be negotiated within the same range. In both cases depending on experience, location and contractual arrangements.
Deadline: Rolling basis until filling the position.

Role Overview: The Head of Marketing, Communications and Advocacy will lead JA Europe’s communications, marketing, and policy advocacy efforts. This strategic role is responsible for shaping and delivering the organization’s voice, strengthening our brand, and amplifying our impact across Europe. The successful candidate will oversee a dynamic team, manage external and internal communications, and work closely with senior leadership to advance JA Europe’s mission and policy objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Leadership:
1. Develop and implement an integrated communications, marketing, and policy strategy aligned with JA Europe’s mission and goals.
2. Advise the CEO and senior leadership on communications and public affairs, ensuring consistent and effective messaging across all platforms.
3. Lead and mentor a high-performing communications team, fostering professional growth and collaboration.
4. Engage the JA network in Europe and create a community of Communications, Marketing and Advocacy experts from JA Members.
2. Marketing and Brand Management:
1. Develop and implement comprehensive marketing strategies to enhance JA Europe’s brand visibility and reputation.
2. Oversee the creation and execution of marketing campaigns across various channels, including digital, traditional media, and events.
3. Utilize new AI tools and technologies to optimize marketing efforts and reach target audiences effectively.
4. Ensure consistent brand messaging and positioning across all communications.
5. Engage with external PR and Marketing firms.
3. Communications:
1. Lead the development and execution of a robust communications strategy.
2. Oversee all external communications, including media relations, press releases, newsletters, website content, and social media.
3. Develop and maintain JA Europe’s brand voice and visual identity, ensuring consistency across all channels.
4. Manage the creation and dissemination of marketing materials, digital campaigns, and multimedia content to engage diverse audiences.
5. Monitor and analyze communications performance, using data to inform and refine strategies.
4. Policy & Advocacy:
1. Develop and implement advocacy strategies to influence policy and decision-making at the EU level.
2. Identify and leverage public policy issues relevant to JA Europe’s work, developing advocacy campaigns to influence policy at the European level.
3. Build and maintain relationships with policymakers (primarily EU from EU Institutions), partners, and stakeholders to advance JA Europe’s policy agenda.
4. Draft policy briefs, position statements, and thought leadership pieces in collaboration with subject matter experts.
5. Team Leadership and Management:
1. Lead and mentor a team of marketing and communications professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
2. Manage budgets, resources, and timelines to ensure the successful execution of marketing and advocacy initiatives.
3. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of strategies and campaigns, making data-driven adjustments as needed.
6. Stakeholder Engagement:
1. Coordinate and liaise with 40+ JA Europe Members in communication and brand-related matters, including chairing monthly online meetings.
2. Prepare regular updates and briefings for JA Europe Board and its PR and Communications Committee.
3. Support JA Europe CEO and senior leadership with speaking points, messaging and visibility when representing the organization in the media, at events, and in policy forums.
4. Cultivate and manage relationships with media, partners, donors, and key stakeholders across Europe.
5. Oversee internal communications to ensure staff are informed, engaged, and aligned with organizational priorities.
Qualifications And Experience:
1. Proven experience (5+ years) in a communications, marketing, or public affairs role.
2. Demonstrated success in developing and executing multi-channel communications and advocacy strategies.
3. Strong leadership and team management skills, with experience mentoring and developing staff, as well as coordinating multi-stakeholder meetings and initiatives.
4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in other European languages is an asset.
5. Experience engaging with policymakers, media, and diverse stakeholders at the European level.
6. Ability to work strategically, manage multiple projects, and thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
