RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER - ST. NIKLAAS (BELGIUM) - PERMANENT POSITION
Are you passionate about renewable energy, innovation, and building a more sustainable future? We're currently recruiting for a Research and Development Engineer coming from an industrial engineering background to join an R&D team focused on cutting-edge renewable energy installations.
In this role, you will be at the heart of research-driven projects that explore, design, and validate next-generation energy systems.
You’ll be involved from concept to prototype to implementation, helping shape the future of energy solutions that are smarter, more efficient, and environmentally conscious. Projects may include the development of hybrid solar/wind systems, smart storage integration, automation of energy control systems, or entirely new solutions for off-grid and grid-tied renewable applications.
As a Research & Development Engineer, you’ll coordinate technical tasks, contribute actively to hands-on design and testing, and act as a vital link between engineers, researchers, suppliers, and stakeholders.
You will need strong technical insight, creative problem-solving abilities, and the communication skills to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Your Responsibilities
* Participate in the design, development, and testing of innovative renewable energy installations.
* Conduct feasibility studies, system analyses, and performance modeling for new concepts and ideas.
* Translate conceptual designs into working prototypes and support the validation process through lab and field testing.
* Manage and coordinate technical work packages within larger R&D projects, ensuring timelines and deliverables are met.
* Support system integration efforts involving electrical, mechanical, and automation components.
* Collaborate with internal engineering and R&D teams as well as external suppliers and technology partners.
* Prepare and maintain detailed technical documentation, drawings, and project reports.
* Contribute to continuous improvements in product reliability, performance, and production readiness.
* Monitor industry trends and regulatory developments relevant to renewable energy technologies.
Required Background & Skills
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering or related field.
* First professional experience (internship or full-time) in one or more of the following domains: Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electromechanical Systems, Automation Engineering
* Strong technical and analytical abilities with hands-on engineering mindset.
* Practical experience with design tools, lab testing equipment, or system simulation is a plus.
* Eagerness to learn and innovate in a highly technical, fast-evolving field.
* Excellent team collaboration and project coordination skills.
* Good command of English for technical documentation and international collaboration.
