VITO, one of Europe’s leading research centers with 1,300 employees, transforms scientific insights into groundbreaking technological innovations, AI-driven solutions, and policy advice. We do this with one clear goal: to help the world thrive for at least another 1,000 years.
As a science-to-technology partner, we support businesses, governments, and society in their transition toward sustainability. With our multidisciplinary approach and unique laboratory, scaling, and testing infrastructure, we develop practical technological innovations. We accelerate progress toward a regenerative economy within the planet's boundaries, prioritizing electrification and circularity. Additionally, we create smart climate solutions for resilient and secure ecosystems and promote a healthy living environment where people, industry, agriculture, and nature coexist in harmony.
Our employees work in multidisciplinary expert teams across more than 40 research domains. They leverage our unique laboratory and data infrastructure, as well as our extensive network of innovation partners. Through positive transition thinking and in-depth techno-economic analyses, we develop solutions that are not only effective on paper but also in the complex reality of everyday life.
To support and strengthen our growth, we are looking for a:
Post-doc on Process Intensification and Separation-Enhanced Conversion
The Team
The MESCH team (Membranes, Separations & Chemistry), part of the Materials & Chemistry (MatCh) business unit, develops industrially viable membrane processes to intensify and green (chemical) processes in the industry.
Membranes and membrane processes are of great value in the transition to a more sustainable chemical industry due to their wide range of applications, low energy consumption, and suitability for continuous chemical processes at any scale. Our approach enables companies to mitigate process technology risks in their developments by demonstrating innovative separation processes at lab and pilot scale.
In addition to the current focus on membrane technology, we aim to expand the application scope to a broader toolbox of separation technologies. As part of this new role, you will help build capabilities, expertise, and collaborations for new separation platforms beyond membrane technology.
To strengthen our team of researchers and technicians (now about 20 people), we are looking for a new colleague for the execution of projects on the process development of integrated separation enhanced conversion. For this, we opened a post-doc position for a 1-year contract, potentially extendable to 2 years.
This is our plan for you
1. Together with our team of experts, you will support the execution and follow-up of dedicated projects on process development via synthesis with an integrated membrane separation step.
2. Based on the basic workplans, you will plan, execute, supervise, and coordinate conversion and separation tests, by designing experiments, executing these, and analyzing the various test results. Reporting of the results is part of the job as well.
We believe the right candidate for this job should have:
1. a PhD in (bio)chemical process engineering or organic chemistry
2. a track record of applied knowledge on process development or synthesis and characterization.
3. ideally, an applied knowledge of membrane separation processes of liquid streams.
4. enthusiasm about both experimental lab work as well as processing of data and reporting
5. team player skills
6. a strong interest in cooperation with other partners (industry, SMEs, institutes, universities)
7. a good knowledge of English, both written and spoken.
What we offer
1. A team of great colleagues, experts in their field, who will guide, support and interact with you
2. A front-row seat to witness the development of technical solutions for a sustainable world
3. Access to state-of-art equipment for membrane processes
4. Interesting opportunities to interact with partners in industry and academia
5. A competitive salary package
