The Swedish Forest Industries Federation (SFIF) represents the Swedish forest industry, which offers numerous solutions for a sustainable and climate-neutral society. SFIF members refine wood resources into bio-based products, such as pulp, paper, board, packaging material, textiles, sawn timber, refined wood products and advanced biofuels. The core business for SFIF members is industrial activities based on wood sourced from sustainably managed forests. Among SFIF members are also some of the largest private forest holdings in Europe. SFIF employs some 45 team members in Stockholm and Brussels.
On behalf of its members, SFIF engages in EU policy development in areas such as Circular Bioeconomy, Climate, Energy, Environment, Forest, Transport, Products, Research & Innovation and Trade. As from 2019, SFIF is permanently represented in Brussels and the office currently consists of four people (including the vacant role SFIF is currently hiring for).
Job Description
As Senior Policy Advisor, you engage in all EU and International policy development relevant to the products of the forest industry in order to influence and secure outcomes, which generate benefits and minimize risks for SFIF members. You work in project teams with your colleagues in Brussels and in Stockholm, proactively aiming to influence policy development as early as possible and you engage in reactive advocacy on proposals already presented. While doing this, you manage and develop relations with multiple Brussels interfaces, such as the EU institutions, Trade organizations, NGOs and Media. You present SFIF positions in various relevant arenas, such as at events, thereby contributing to raising awareness about the positions within the EU policy making system.
You contribute to professional policy monitoring, which allows SFIF to be one step ahead in identifying issues of importance. You actively contribute to building strong networks in Brussels with the aim of identifying potential synergies and collaborations. You contribute to SFIF’s EU communication activities and to arranging professional events and meetings in Brussels.
You work in close cooperation with colleagues in the Brussels office. You also cooperate closely with all relevant SFIF staff in the Stockholm office, such as management, communication specialists and policy experts, as well as with member company representatives. You report to the Director for EU Affairs who is also the Head of the Brussels office.
Your profile
* Relevant professional experience of which at least 2 years hands-on experience working within the EU policy system, for instance at an EU institution.
* A University degree, for instance in law, political science, technology or economics.
* High-level verbal and written communication skills.
* Proven hands-on project, organizational and teamwork skills.
* Fluency in spoken and written English.
* Fluency in spoken and written Swedish.
* Experience working in a business and/or industrial organization.
* Knowledge about forest-based value chains and relevant product policies and regulations including Construction initiatives (New European Bauhaus), Packaging & Packaging Waste, Internal Market, Trade as well as Research, Development and Innovation.
