CEDEC has been actively and successfully advocating for the interests of local energy providers towards decision-makers and stakeholders in European Union policy-making processes since 1992. This long-standing involvement in the development of EU energy and climate legislation has resulted in outstanding internal capacities of policy analysis and strategy implementation. Our open communication and trusted cooperation with members’ company experts and national association representatives enable us to translate their business challenges into strong and shared EU positioning, which have proven to be key success factors.
What You’ll Do
CEDEC is looking for a solid professional with a deep understanding of European politics and policies to play a key role in shaping and delivering CEDEC’s EU politics strategy.
The Policy Director will contribute to strengthening an extensive network of local and regional energy companies throughout Europe and across the EU institutions, with the ambition of connecting the ambitions and interests of member companies and their local shareholders with all actors involved in the policy-making processes at EU level (European institutions, regulatory authorities, related EU associations).
The candidate’s main focus will be to:
1. Lead, in close cooperation with the secretary general, on delivering CEDEC’s strategy to strengthen and improve the existing EU governance frameworks in view of their implementation in member companies’ businesses, through close cooperation with CEDEC members (national associations and local/regional energy companies) as well as with an extensive external network.
2. Strengthen CEDEC’s engagement with other EU associations in the energy sector and related sectors.
3. Participate in meetings with external stakeholders such as Members of the European Parliament, the European Commission, Permanent Representations, and represent CEDEC in stakeholder discussions and workshops.
4. Actively contribute to shaping the political and legislative agenda for the implementation of the European Green Deal, with the right balance between sustainability, security of supply and affordability.
5. Develop and provide political analysis and thought leadership on energy.
6. Monitor developments and the wider context of energy politics at EU level and Member States, and integrate them into the context of CEDEC’s work programme and strategy.
7. Support the management and the general coordination of the association.
Profile Requirements
1. Solid relevant experience (at least 5 years) in energy-related topics, having sound knowledge of the EU regulatory processes.
2. Track record of building and managing stakeholder relationships and coalitions.
3. Proven experience in analysis and problem-solving including covering technical, economic and legal issues.
4. Ability to develop convincing arguments and strategies and translate them in a succinct manner.
5. Excellent communication skills in English with an ability to adapt to different audiences (from technical experts to politicians or the wider public). Ability to communicate in multiple EU languages would be an advantage.

Qualifications
Master’s degree, preferably in European politics, European law, economics or in energy-related domains.
