We are seeking an innovative, strong communicator and influencing Environmental Management & Compliance Lead to join our Environmental Sustainability team in the Campus site of Braine-l’Alleud, Belgium.
About the role:
The Environmental Compliance lead at UCB Corporate will report directly to the Head of Environmental Sustainability. This global role is pivotal in ensuring UCB's adherence to environmental laws and regulations across all markets, including the European Union. This role will also oversee the development, implementation, and management of UCB's environmental standards, building UCB environmental management system and compliance strategies.
Job is located ideally in Belgium.
What you’ll do:
1. You develop and maintain a comprehensive mapping for global environmental regulations and ensure all sites / countries have one in place and maintain compliance. (using EcoFact as a first screening).
2. You analyze global environmental legislation, preparing reports that concisely entails environmental regulations, define impacts on UCB operations, detect and engage with subject matter expert that needs to contribute and lead cross-functional projects to ensure compliance.
3. You lead cross-functional projects and strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing environmental sustainability & performance within UCB, from project initiation to completion. Collaborate with stakeholders to define project scopes, deliverables, timelines, and resource requirements.
4. You establish and manage UCB's global environmental sustainability policy and standards related to for example: water pollution, waste management, climate mitigation and resilience, incident reporting, resource efficiency, soil and groundwater protection, ect….and ensure alignment with corporate objectives and industry best practices.
5. You implement procedures to enforce standards through training programs, regular audits, and effective dashboarding for monitoring and reporting.
6. You improve UCB environmental sustainability maturity assessment to improve and anchor green change into the organization and deploy an assessment program with improvement cycle to support UCB corporate objectives.
7. You ensure enforcement of UCB environmental management system across all business functions.
8. You participate to key supplier’s environmental audit (using Pharma Supply Chain Initiative audit list), carrying out investigations on potential breach in environmental best practices, and follow-up on mitigation and represent UCB in external facing meeting as EFPIA.
9. You engage in policy advocacy and support UCB regulatory affairs related to environmental sustainability at the European levels. Advocate for environmental policies, legislation, and standards through industry association (EFPIA, others) that support UCB's sustainability goals and address systemic challenges in areas such as climate change and resource depletion.
10. You connect with corporate affairs to raise environmental awareness and position UCB for environmental topics within our external ecosystem.
Interested? For this position you’ll need the following education, experience, and skills:
11. Master’s degree in Environment or EHS matters.
12. Environmental knowledge: Strong understanding of environmental principles, regulations, and sustainability practices.
13. At least 7 year-experience in environmental compliance and management systems and a proven experience in project management and coordination across various organizational levels.
14. Incorrigible interest in environment preservation which will enable to carry out his or her duty efficiently and effectively with passion.
15. Courageously drive planet preferred solutions, increasing UCB values for our patients now and into the future.
16. In-depth knowledge of environmental laws and regulations, particularly within the EU.
17. Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to drive sustainability initiatives.
18. Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present technical data to non-technical audiences and provide actionable recommendations. Ability to collaborate and build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders (as collecting data from suppliers).
19. Strong analytical skills to assess compliance risks and develop mitigation strategies.
20. Ability to design and conduct training and audits, ensuring understanding and enforcement of environmental standards, data quality assurance.
