About the role
The Senior Marine Underwriter will contribute to profitable growth and overall business results of the AIG Belgium Marine portfolio, within the France/Belgium/Luxembourg cluster. The role will be based in Brussels.
Main Responsibilities:
1. Underwrite new and renewal accounts (in lead and follow capacity) within authority.
2. Determine the desirability of accepting or rejecting business in line with strategy, appetite and guidelines.
3. Carry out technical risk analysis.
4. Price exposures in accordance with pricing tools and guidelines.
5. Formulate appropriate contractual conditions and perform critical wording reviews.
6. Assess international risks and design/deploy multinational programmes as applicable.
7. Evaluate capacity aggregations including NatCat accumulations, taking into consideration catastrophe modelling data and analysis.
8. Proactively monitor business profitability and anticipate/execute effective policy renewal negotiations.
9. Collaborate with other departments (Claims, Distribution, Risk control, Operations, etc.) to ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction while meeting business goals as well as governance and underwriting control objectives.
10. Cultivate strong relationships with brokers, clients and other key external stakeholders.
11. Identify opportunities for business development/marketing initiatives and contribute to the promotion of AIG.

Qualifications / Experience:
1. University degree and ideally professional certification.
2. Minimum 5-10 years’ experience in Marine insurance underwriting, broking or claims handling, with demonstrated competence ideally across cargo, logistics and commodities business.
3. Proficient English, Dutch & French language skills. Any additional European language would be an asset.
