Global Application Engineer Steel
Location: Nivelles
Our client, a global leader in minerals and materials solutions, is seeking a Global Application Engineer – Steel to support and anticipate the evolving needs of European iron and steel customers as they transition to decarbonised production. This role blends technical expertise, innovation management, and commercial strategy to maximise the value of the company’s products.
The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on steel industry experience (using EAF technology) and the ability to bridge technical knowledge with business growth. This role also involves initiating and managing innovation projects, providing advanced technical support, and developing new market applications.
Key Responsibilities
* Track industry shifts in decarbonisation and assess risks and opportunities.
* Identify market needs and drive innovation and product development.
* Manage technical projects, from laboratory trials to customer site implementation.
* Act as a technical-commercial liaison, supporting sales teams and customers.
* Build and maintain strong relationships with key industry stakeholders.
* Contribute to continuous improvement of existing applications.
* Identify and collaborate with strategic partners to expand product applications.
* Support new business and innovation initiatives across European markets.
Qualifications & Experience
* 10-15 years of experience strong technical expertise in steelmaking, with experience using Electric Arc Furnaces (EAF).
* Proven background in innovation project management and technical problem-solving.
* Business acumen with experience in value-in-use (ViU) selling and commercial strategy.
* Ability to influence and engage stakeholders across regions and functions.
* Experience working in multinational environments with exposure to different markets.
* Fluent in English; additional European languages, particularly French, are a plus.
