The ICT department at VIB ensures that technology and data are managed securely and efficiently. Our focus includes:
* Defining and enforcing security policies and best practices for ICT systems and data.
* Maintaining and improving the ICT infrastructure, including networks, hardware, and critical systems.
* Securing applications, managing data, and supporting software integration.
Job Description: Security Engineer
To strengthen our cybersecurity posture, VIB in Ghent is looking for a Security Engineer to help protect our digital assets and enhance security operations.
Key Responsibilities
* Monitor and respond to security incidents, proactively hunt for threats and react to incidents using Microsoft Sentinel and Defender (KQL).
* Ensure timely patch management for servers (Windows/Linux), client PCs (Mac/Windows/Linux), and network devices (firewalls, switches).
* Track and remediate vulnerabilities using Microsoft365 Defender and CVE monitoring.
* Fine-tune N-Central, develop custom SNMP monitoring, and verify that all critical assets are properly monitored.
* Optimize firewall policies and security profiles to maintain a strong security posture.
* Monitor and maintain backups for VMs, on-premises servers, firewalls, and network devices using Veeam, Azure Backup, and scripting.
* Assist with complex security-related support cases and collaborate on troubleshooting efforts (L3 support).
* Support various initiatives such as network setup (firewalls, switches, Wi-Fi), Azure clean-up, and follow-me printing deployment.
* Build a comprehensive internal wiki with technical documentation, manuals and ICT policies.
* Collaborate together with the other members of the ICT team (i.e. Project Managers, Solutions Architects, Support Engineers) on different ICT solutions, projects, changes, incidents and problems.
* Continuously improve the way of working within the ICT department.
* Identify problematic areas and propose strategic solutions in time.
Requirements
* You obtained a bachelor's degree in an ICT-related field or can present relevant experience.
* You have several years of experience as a system and/or security engineer in a complex environment.
* You have deep understanding of EntraID, Exchange Online, Azure security (NSGs, firewalls), Sentinel, Microsoft365 Defender, Intune (MAM/MDM), Teams, SharePoint, and Microsoft Purview for compliance.
* You have experience with Fortinet firewalls, switches, access points, and network security principles (Azure, NSG, Radius, certificates).
* You have hands-on experience with Hyper-V, VMware, Azure Virtual Machines, and Privileged Access Management solutions.
* You have strong KQL, WMI, SNMP, and security monitoring skills using Microsoft Sentinel and Defender.
* You are proficient in Active Directory, LDAP, DNS, and Entra Connect.
* You are familiar with Citrix NetScaler and Storefront solutions.
* You are able to automate tasks and integrate systems using PowerShell and Microsoft Graph API.
* You have experience with Veeam (Backup and Replication, Azure Backup).
* You understand the importance of NIS2 compliance, and you have an understanding of ITIL.
