Are you passionate about energy efficiency and sustainability? Do you want to play a key role in shaping the energy future in Borealis Beringen and Geleen? As an Energy and Climate Engineer, you will drive impactful energy initiatives, ensure compliance with regulations, and contribute to a more sustainable future. This is an exciting opportunity for young professionals with up to three years of experience or ambitious graduates eager to make a difference!
Your Key Responsibilities:
1. Ensure Compliance & Strategy Alignment – Maintain the energy management system, ensuring compliance with regulations (EU-ETS, ISO50001) and company policies.
2. Drive Energy Efficiency – Stimulate identification, initiation and implementation of key energy-saving projects while staying up to date with emerging technologies and best practices.
3. Risk & Opportunity Assessment – Collaborate with local management (and corporate teams) to identify risks and opportunities related to energy and climate, translating them into actionable strategies.
4. Training & Awareness – Contribute to training and awareness (potentially leadership) in energy management, fostering a culture of sustainability and efficiency within the organization.
5. Audits & Reporting – Lead local energy audits, internal assessments, and verification processes while ensuring accurate data collection, forecasting, and performance monitoring.
6. Cross-functional Collaboration – Work closely with our production units, technical engineering teams, external consultants, and universities to optimize energy performance and support long-term sustainability goals.
7. Support energy sourcing – Initiate and drive cluster energy integration opportunities, support corporate energy sourcing team in contract negotiations and ensure implementation and compliance with energy and utilities contracts.
About you
You have a master's degree in engineering Bio/process chemical, Safety Engineering, or equivalent experience. Whether you are an ambitious graduate eager to kick-start your career or a professional with up to three years of experience in the chemical or energy-intensive industry, this role offers an exciting opportunity to grow and make an impact. You will develop strong knowledge of production processes, project management, and energy & climate policies while gaining insight into market structures, suppliers, and customers.
Your expertise will expand in energy systems, sustainability practices, and relevant legislation, supported by analytical, problem-solving, and data-handling skills. You will have the chance to grow and act as a leader in this role.
You are fluent in English and Dutch, with strong communication, networking, and negotiation abilities. Additionally, you demonstrate business and financial literacy, a results-driven mindset, and a high level of integrity, ensuring compliance with HSE standards while contributing to sourcing, operations planning, and production optimization.
