Grant Expert Manager – EU Funding

The Strategic Partnerships and Resource Group (SPRG) drives Public-Private Partnership projects (PPP), which includes competitive tender Grants, where governmental agency or non-governmental funding or in-kind contributions are considered by the R&D organization. Critically, SPRG ensures consistency and compliance in contracts and grants across the organization for the benefit of J&J and its external partners. SPRG supports different R&D teams across J&J during the evaluation, ensuring the external resource is an appropriate strategic fit to our R&D priorities and that all risks, terms and conditions are evaluated before any engagement is made. In addition, SPRG takes ownership to support the projects End-To-End, from idea generation, submission, and execution to close-out and auditing.
To drive efficiencies and synergies we are seeking a Grant Expert Manager – EU Funding. They will be an individual contributor who is a developing subject matter expert and who works independently with some supervision. Moreover, they will have the vision and strategic mindset which partners with the Focus Area Leaders from the very beginning of PPP projects, to recommend the best PPP opportunity for the R&D partner.
The successful candidate will be joining a dynamic, global team steeped in a culture of collaboration, problem solving, risk assessment and compliance.
The responsibilities & the impact YOU will have:
Reporting to the Grant Expert Senior Manager – EU Funding, the Grant Expert Manager participates in tasks relating to research and development (R&D) activities, specifically those where external partnerships and resources are considered as an advantage to help accelerate or de-risk our R&D programs through insight-based decision-making.
They monitor a portfolio of external partnership programmes, the political context in which they operate, thus having a view on programme design and decision-making timelines. They ensure PPP opportunities are aligned with functional and business unit goals, as aligned with the Focus Areas Leaders and other Grants Experts and maintain effective communication with all parties involved. This includes following established compliance and legal requirements for PPPs in the corporate risk environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Coaches more junior colleagues in techniques, processes and responsibilities.
2. Capable of leading multi-functional teams to operationalize strategy into action, instructs and informs team members of production timelines and provides motivation to achieve process milestones.
3. Communicates cross-functionally in order to coordinate project expectations and deliverables. A strong collaborator, working with the Focus Area Leaders and Grant Experts, to co-create solutions and PPPs or competitive tender grant opportunities for internal R&D business partners in Europe.
4. Develops methods for evaluating project strengths and identifies areas of opportunity. Interfaces with project owners, senior management and relevant stakeholders to create project roadmaps that align with organizational objectives.
5. One of the ‘GoTo’ experts in Europe regarding the decision-making timelines and when to optimally engage with PPPs and Competitive Tenders.
6. Lead multidisciplinary team to coordinate proposal development activities, ensuring projects adhere to requirements related to technical quality, reliability, reporting schedule, cost, and document retention for inspection readiness.
7. Analyse evaluation reports of submitted proposals to draw lessons and improve future proposals.
We’d love to hear from YOU, if you have:
* Bachelor's degree required; MBA or advanced degree a positive.
* Minimum 5+ years of project/program management experience with demonstrated experience with European Life Science Agencies.
* A minimum of 5+ years of working experience in the Pharmaceutical and/or Medical Devices Industry is required.
* Willing to challenge self and engage with new life science agencies in response to the business need.
* Knowledge of public-private partnership models, healthcare funding and compliance requirements.
* The ability to collaborate effectively and influence decision-making across internal and external entities.
* Proven business acumen with budget management skills, and negotiation and contracting skills.
* Strong communication, presentation and influencing skills.
* Experience orchestrating strategic projects and programs.
* Passion for advancing healthcare through innovation and strategic partnerships.
* Fluent Language skills in English.
