Climate Action Network Europe is looking for a Head of Network Development
(full-time, open-ended, Brussels)
Climate Action Network (CAN) Europe is Europe's largest coalition working on climate and energy issues. With 200 member organisations in 40 European countries – representing over 40 million citizens - CAN Europe works to prevent dangerous climate change and promote sustainable climate and energy policy in Europe.
We're currently seeking a committed and motivated individual to join CAN Europe’s management as Head of Network Development. Besides a strong passion to lead our Network’s efforts to fight the climate emergency and accelerate a socially just transformation, the ideal candidate should demonstrate experience in strategic leadership and organisational management and a strong passion for bringing people together around a common cause. Leading the Network Development Team, the individual will contribute to the work of the Management Team under the supervision of the Director. The position is full-time with a preference for a candidate based in Brussels, with teleworking possible.
Required skills and experiences:
* University degree or equivalent qualification in subject linked to CAN Europe’s work and mission
* At least 6 years of professional experience in a network development role, of which at least 2 years in a leadership role
* In-depth knowledge of EU institutions and processes, including practical experience of at least one policy process relating to EU or national climate policy and/or diplomacy
* Strategic thinking and long-term vision
* Strong interpersonal and networking skills
* Excellent level of written and spoken English
* Outstanding communication and networking skills
* High level of motivation and ability to coordinate the achievement of complex objectives within deadlines
* Ability to put in place practices and processes that enable the integration and convergence of a wide range of different objectives and positions
* Demonstrated alignment with the mission, the modes of action, and the values of CAN Europe
* Experience of working with a network of NGOs preferably in the climate and energy fields
* Experience of coordinating large networks
* Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate a diverse team and provide strategic guidance based on organisational values and towards common objectives
Job contents:
Strategic Guidance
* Support the Directors in developing CAN Europe's network development strategies, ensuring the implementation of our 5-Year Strategy and priorities overall
* Ensure strategic guidance and coordination of the Network
* Ensure linkages and cooperation between the Network Development Team and rest of the Secretariat
* Manage and support relevant Network Development Coordinators
* Support the strategic delivery of relevant projects managed within the purview of the Network Development Team
Organisational Management
* As a member of the Management Team, ensure effective operational processes relating to the management of the secretariat (inter alia coordination and harmonisation of objectives, plans and processes, guiding prioritising and de-prioritising of workstreams and improving internal communication)
* Line-manage staff members from the Network Development Team
* Support and provide strategic coordination of CAN Europe's fundraising efforts
* Advise and assist the functioning of the CAN Europe secretariat's budget
Representation
* High-level representation to (possible) funders (in cooperation with the Fundraising Coordinator and the Directors)
* Support the Director in CAN Europe's representation towards CAN International, the Green10 and similar NGO coordination initiatives
* Participation in meetings with decision-makers, join panels, act as spokesperson, where needed
* Engage in representation and coordination towards the Network’s members
With this opportunity, we offer:
* An open-ended contract with flexible working hours and the possibility of teleworking
* This position is preferably based in Brussels but it is also open to applicants from the European Union or those already in possession of a residence and a work permit. We are not considering sponsoring visas this time
* Remuneration is based on our Belgian salary grid and adapted to the cost of living on location
* If the position is based at our head office in Brussels, we will offer a Belgian open-ended contract with an expected salary of between 5.000,00 € and 5.750,00 € gross/month depending on the relevant years of experience (from 6 to 20 years) and subject to Belgian tax; Meal vouchers (7,00 €/day); transport costs; eco-vouchers (250,00 €/year); sport and culture vouchers (100,00 €/year); phone allowance (39,00 €/month); work computer
* In other cases, it will be a consultancy contract or an employment contract, depending on opportunities on location, with a remuneration based on our Belgian salary grid, adapted to the local cost of living
