About the Corporate Development Department
Umicore’s Corporate Development Department houses the Group’s M&A and Strategy competences. The team is responsible for the management of acquisition & divestment files and provides related advice and services to its internal customers such as in the field of valuation. Throughits decentralized business model, Umicore’s business strategy is embedded within its Business Units (BUs).However, Corporate Development provides strategic support to the BUs as well as to Group management linked to Umicore’s overall strategy, and manages key strategic projects.
What you will be doing
As (Senior) Strategy Manager you play a leading role in the development, review and implementation of the Group and Battery Materials business unit strategies, defining strategic vision, ambitions, objectives and priorities, translating strategy into action, leading key strategic projects, steering the execution of the strategy, and ultimately assist and advise the BU Management Team, Umicore ELT and SB in its strategic decision making process. Reporting to the Strategy Director, the role is based in Brussels, Belgium.
Responsibilities:
* Manage key strategic projects including partnership discussions at BU, cross-BU, and Group levels.
* Identify key priorities and projects to achieve BU and Group strategic ambitions, aligning with BU and Umicore Management.
* Define objectives, scope, approach, team setup, timeline, and governance for strategic projects.
* Develop stringent storylines and drive cross-functional senior teams in conducting required analysis and reflections.
* Prepare executive-ready presentations with support from team member, ensuring alignment with key stakeholders.
* Present interim and final results to top management, including BU Management Team, Umicore ELT, and SB.
* Select, onboard, and manage external consultants when applicable.
* Translate strategy and ambitions into actionable roadmaps and initiatives, proactively steering BU’s strategic initiatives.
* Derive key ambitions, objectives, and priorities for the BU from the defined strategy, in close liaison with the BU Management Team.
* Drive development of initiatives and roadmaps to achieve strategic ambitions and objectives by cross-functional BU teams.
* Steer focus of strategic activities of the BU, critically challenging the process, progress, and prioritization of activities.
* Identify risks and challenges proactively, develop mitigation and corrective actions to execute the strategic plan.
* Oversee tracking and reporting of implementation status, driven by the junior strategy team member.
* Compile status reports by the Junior Strategy team member and present updates and recommendations to the BU Management team.
* Support ad-hoc analysis and preparation of files and presentations for top management, overseeing activities of Junior Strategy team member in conducting analysis of internal data and market analysis.
Who we are looking for
* 6-9 years of relevant work experience with exposure to industrial activities, processes and technology; preferably in a Management / Strategy consulting environment
* Master degree preferably in Business or Economics
* Strong strategic and conceptual thinking, analytical and problem solving skills; high proficiency in structuring projects and managing large cross-functional teams (also on higher management level); ability to present complex matters in a clear, concise and simple storyline
* Self-driven and experienced in driving and delivering projects, collecting input from various (senior) stakeholders
* Well organized, resistant and capable in managing and handling tight deadlines
* Excellent communication, presentation and inter-personal skills
* Team player and motivator within multi-national and multi-disciplinary teams
* Structured and motivated with “can do attitude”
* Ability to advocate for change and new approaches while handling change management in a positive and cooperative way
