Job Overview

We have a great opportunity for a Fire Protection Engineer/Expert to join us in Ghent and become part of our 1,500+ employees who work together to advance the science of safety every day.
The ideal candidate must have a strong background in fire sprinkler systems and the application of European Standards and National Fire Protection Associates (NFPA) codes and standards. Experience with performance-based fire engineering design is also a benefit. The applicant must be able to collaborate with a team of Fire Protection Engineers with diverse backgrounds and experience levels. The successful candidate will provide a mix of office engineering work (plan review, hazard classification, assumption reports) and on-site engineering and technical support. This is an exciting opportunity to gain fire protection experience and knowledge in a wider international team of experts.
Responsibilities
1. Supporting the fire protection engineering service line:
2. Execution of Fire Safety Protection studies and design, for different type of active fire protection systems, including:
3. Risk classification
4. Hydraulic design
5. Pump selection
6. Drafting of technical specifications, drafting bill of quantities, etc.
7. On-site audits (inspections of fire safety systems)
8. Design of both water and non-water based systems.
9. Meeting and negotiating with clients and AHJ
Long term running projects and development:
The goal is to develop towards total project management for the Fire Protection Service line, striving towards independent working and managing your own portfolio of clients; supporting our other service lines where needed. Depending on your personal interests and goals, further developing as an expert Fire Protection Engineer. Jensen Hughes Belgium has a very diverse team in terms of services being offered, there are many options to branch into our other Fire Engineering activities, where further development could be considered in terms of code compliance, evacuation calculations, fire modelling, process safety engineering, etc.
Requirements and Qualifications
To set you up for success in this role from day one (at a minimum) the following qualifications/experience are required:
10. You must have experience with European design and product standards such as EN12845, CEA4001, EN 54,VDS and also international rules of good practice in particular design he or she must be familiar with NFPA and FM standards.
11. You must be able to design wet based fire protection systems, from risk classification through to drafting of technical specifications. Design experience of non-water based systems is a nice to have, but not necessary.
