Targets of the position
The Translator is responsible for the correct translation of the software, online help, and all related documentation of the product in the target language(s). He maintains the translation memories and glossaries.
He assists in the proofreading of documents that have been translated into one of the target languages.
He is integrated into the production workflow to deliver a translation synchronized to the released version of the system.
He translates text originals into his supported languages and supports the organization of the translation process into other languages.
Responsibilities
1. Translates or revises a variety of technical documents related to product documentation as accurately as possible in the languages he supports. This will include User Manuals, Installation Manuals, Installation guides, Training Materials, Read Me notes, Release notes, etc.
2. Translates the software modules in the related target language(s).
3. Translates and maintains online help documentation in the related target language(s).
4. Maintains the translation memories and glossaries.
5. Endeavors to understand the technical implications of the translations.
6. Keeps track of, researches, and evaluates new translation tools and methods.
7. Trains other colleagues in the use of translation tools and procedures and provides informational assistance on an ongoing basis.
8. Develops and maintains translation skills.
Internal Cooperation
* Towards the Development Manager
1. Estimates workload for building the required translation.
2. Communicates progress, reports on delays and risks.
3. Reports his activity.
4. Asks for absence, training requests, and all employee-related questions.
* Towards the Technical Editor
1. Takes all needed input for building the documentation from the Technical Editor of the document to be translated.
* Towards all members of the department
1. Uses his knowledge and experience to assist other staff members in the daily management aspects of their jobs.
External Cooperation
In cases of use of external translators, he gives the needed support.
Qualifications
Education
1. A master's degree in linguistics or translation for the original language and minimum one target language or equivalent education.
2. Medical and/or laboratory background is a plus.
3. Very good verbal and written skills in English and in one or more target languages.
Know-how
1. A high level of proficiency in the language of the original text and in one of the target languages is vital.
2. Knowledge of or experience in translation is a must.
3. Knowledge of or experience with LIS systems is a plus.
4. Basic knowledge of or experience with common software applications such as MS Office.
5. Know-how of and/or experience with translation software tools is a plus.
Experience
1. Detailed knowledge of the software tools and methods as described under the section “Know-how.”
2. Experience in time estimation methods and practices.
Soft Skills
1. Able to organize and plan the work.
2. Team player with excellent communication skills.
