In duurzaamheid. En in onze meer dan 1.400 gedreven collega’s. The electric grid is an important asset of the energy landscape that supports the social economic welfare. Elia wants to be a catalyst towards a successful energy transition by contributing to the development of a reliable, sustainable and affordable energy system. By building new interconnectors and integrating renewables in our grid we stimulate the European energy market as well as the decarbonization of our society. The energy transition will lead to large-scale production and integration of renewable energy. The EU sets out to install 300 GW of Offshore wind power in the North Sea by 2050. To achieve this successfully, massive grid developments in the form of HVDC and FACTS systems will be required. Elia is positioning itself as a frontrunner in this transition. Next to already implementing two HVDC interconnectors (Nemo to UK and ALEGrO to Germany), and efficiently connecting the renewable energy produced in the North Sea through the MOG I platforms, Elia is developing the Offshore Energy Hub. This has the ambition to, next to directly integrating 3,5 GW of additional wind production, becoming the stepping stone and interconnection point of the world’s first multi-terminal and international HVDC network. To realise these ambitions successfully in a sustainable way, knowledge and expertise are essential. Hence two new teams have been created (Power Electronics & Virtual Substations). The team working on Power Electronics will centralize the expertise around HVDC, FACTS like STATCOMs, synchronous condensers and AC filters. Elia offers a wide variety of development opportunities to ensure that you can build up and deepen your expertise in the field of HVDC & FACTS: You’ll join a young team of motivated experts that are passionate about the realization of the energy transition You’ll participate, learn and contribute by participating in conferences, exchange programs, working groups You’ll participate to on the job trainings like intervention on existing and future assets You’ll be able to follow projects from the design stage, all the way to energization and operation. Responsibilities: Build up your technical expertise in the field of HVDC & FACTS Build up a network with suppliers, universities, consultants and other stake holders Perform and follow-up simulations and studies allowing safe integration and operation of the new and existing installations, including C&P replacement feasibility studies Develop technology notes around HVDC/FACTS-integration to support conceptual decisions Further develop the internal knowledge base on HVDC & FACTS Draw up and lecture trainings involving HVDC & FACTS systems You will collaborate closely with the project team responsible for HVDC/FACTS projects, where you will act as technical project expert. In this role, you will: (Co-)develop technical specifications & concepts (with support of potential third parties) Follow-up the development of the system, from conceptual to basic and detailed design. Make technical evaluations of proposals and assist during negotiations with suppliers/contractors Cover the design review and provide assistance in making different choices Prepare and participate in the prequalification, type testing, factory acceptance and site acceptance Assure follow-up and respect of design choices during execution.
