Organisation: Stanley Center for Peace and SecurityDeadline: 03/12/2024The Stanley Center for Peace and Security has an exciting opening for a journalism and media program associate.The program associate reports to the director of policy programming strategy and works as part of a two-person team under the day-to-day direction of the senior program officer for journalism and media.The program associate is a key part of developing and carrying out programs such as workshops, reporting fellowships, dialogues, reporting projects, and training in the United States and around the world in collaboration with partner organisations.Primary ResponsibilitiesProgram Support: The program associate provides key support to programming activities as part of a two-person team.External Networking and Relationship Maintenance: The program associate maintains strong ties with key organisational partners, journalists, editors, and other media professionals.Learning: The program associate contributes to understanding the impact of the center’s programming.Team Contribution: The program associate uses open, respectful, and inclusive communication to create a workplace with a sense of belonging.Other Responsibilities: The program associate may participate in meetings, processes, or committees outside of primary responsibilities.QualificationsThe ideal candidate will possess:A bachelor’s degree—or equivalent experience—in journalism, media, mass communications, or a related field. Coursework in international relations, political science, and/or foreign policy preferred.One to two years of project/program implementation experience, including managing tasks and meeting deadlines, with an interest in programming design and implementation.Practical experience interacting with journalists and media organisations, and familiarity with various news, media, and communications platforms.An interest in international policy and global challenges related to the center’s focus areas—climate change, nuclear weapons, and mass violence.Excellent communication and active-listening skills, with the ability to present ideas effectively and provide/accept feedback.Highly effective organisational skills for managing information flows and planning work to ensure high productivity.Proficient writing and analytical skills to connect research with practical application in programming.Excellent collaborative skills to pursue shared goals and maintain trust and transparency.Dynamic networking and relationship maintenance skills.Familiarity with technology and tools commonly used in today’s digital workspaces.Additional desirable traits include:Familiarity with social media and digital communications platforms.Exposure to international policy work and understanding of policy change.Ability to speak, read, and/or write in multiple languages.Study, travel, or living experience outside of the United States.How to applyThe deadline for applications is December 3, 2024.
