Internship Position
We are seeking an intern to contribute to innovative robotics projects, particularly in designing advanced mechatronic solutions for defence R&D applications.
The intern will participate to the design and development of a mobile platform equipped with a manipulator for defence (e.g., mine clearance) and civilian applications. The Internship also involves adapting a pre-existing robotic platform for use within an R&D European project. It can be tailored to meet the requirements of a Master’s thesis.
The Internship is available at the Robotics, Mechanisms and Structure (RMS) Team (Systems Department).
The candidate will mainly report to the RMS Team Lead.
* Location: Sint-Stevens-Woluwe (Brussels Area)
* Duration: 6 months
* Start date: Quarter 1, 2025
Tasks and Responsibilities
* Familiarise with:
o The objectives, use-cases, scope and requirements of the project
o Existing facilities and robotic platforms
* Conduct in-depth mechatronic analysis, focusing on the robot system architecture and kinematics
* Design systems and sub-systems (UGV, manipulator)
* Customize a pre-existing platform with payloads and sensors. Mechanical, Electrical and/or Software adaptations
* Prototype and test concepts
* Collaborate with cross-functional Teams, including Robotics hardware and Software engineers
* Share and document progress, challenges, and solutions to the Team.
Skills and Experience
* Currently enrolled in a Master’s degree in Mechanical or Robotics Engineering or a similar University program
* Good knowledge of:
o Robotic system synthesis and system modelling
o Machine components, sizing, tolerances, manufacturing process, materials and treatments
o Mechanical simulation and analyses
* Proficient with CAD software (preferably SolidWorks)
* Specialisation in mechatronics system design or mechanisms design is an asset
* Strength to self-disciplined and work ethic
* Creative, autonomous and rigorous mindset
* Good written and spoken English.
