S-Biomedic (A Beiersdorf Company)Director of R&DS-Biomedic, a pioneering leader in the skin microbiome space and part of the Beiersdorf Group, is seeking an exceptional Director of R&D to drive innovation in skin biology and microbiome-based solutions. This role is based at our state-of-the-art research lab in Ghent and focuses on developing breakthrough biologic ingredients for the skincare industry.In this role, you will combine your scientific expertise with visionary leadership to drive breakthrough innovation. You will lead a high-performing team of scientists, build strategic partnerships, and oversee a diverse R&D portfolio aimed at developing ground-breaking skin microbiome solutions.Your experience with high-risk, high-reward projects, coupled with your deep knowledge of life sciences, skin biology, and microbiome research, will be instrumental in advancing our innovation pipeline.Key Responsibilities:Lead and inspire: Guide a dynamic team of scientists, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.Strategic innovation: Develop and manage an R&D portfolio that balances groundbreaking initiatives with strategic resource allocation.External partnerships: Drive the initiation and management of key collaborations with academic, industry, and innovation ecosystems to expand our capabilities.Representation and advocacy: Act as a key scientific representative for S-Biomedic, interfacing with internal teams and external stakeholders to advance our vision.Experience and Educational Requirements:Proven Innovator: A seasoned scientist with extensive experience in microbiology and skin microbiome research, with a strong focus on pushing the boundaries of innovation.Inspiring Leader: A passionate, dynamic leader with the ability to mentor, develop, and motivate diverse teams of skilled scientists.Strategic Thinker: Experience in managing long-term innovation projects and leading initiatives that drive impactful, high-reward outcomes.Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of skin microbiome science and fermentation production, with the ability to assess production costs during the early development stages of projects.Stakeholder Management: Demonstrated ability to build trust and foster strong relationships across a range of stakeholders and ecosystems. The capability to communicate scientific and business concepts effectively and persuasively across organizational levels and with external partners.International Corporate Exposure: Proven track record of working in a multinational environment within the skincare or cosmetics sector, understanding the dynamics and challenges of international organizations.Experience in Experimental Design: Demonstrated expertise in designing and executing scientific experiments, ideally with a background as a principal investigator overseeing significant research initiatives and advanced experimental methodologies.Resilient and Adaptive: Comfortable leading in high-pressure environments, with the ability to adapt to challenges and pursue ambitious goals.Scientific Acumen: Strong background in life sciences, capable of interpreting complex scientific reports and steering projects with a data-driven approach.Education: Master’s degree or PhD in Biotechnology, Bioscience Engineering, Biochemistry or equivalent.Years of experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role.
